the best I have used is like P20 (suncream) but is for mosquitos, can't remember the name - but I was the only one that didn't get bitten in Borneo, the others all had various mixtures of other insect repellents!

I attract the little blighters too and in the last year have started reacting badly to getting bitten-results in swelling etc. So before I went to Thailand travelling I asked a nurse for her opinion and she recommended 3M Ultrathon insect repellent. I bought it on Ebay for about £5 a tube and it worked a treat, not a single bite in a month there! :D When I walked through rainforest areas I actually saw the mossies fly up to my skin and stop about 6 inches away and fly away! Brilliant.

It's used by the British army and US Military so maybe slightly excessive for a holiday. ;) But thought i'd recommend it anyway in case you also have bad reactions to bites.

Oops, just realised how old this thread is. Hope you managed to get through your holiday without getting bitten.

I have been out to Philippines many times and have tried many of the products on the market including Avon Skin so Soft etc.
None of them have worked very well until I took out MIJEX Spray this last trip and I did not suffer a single insect bite until I ran out of it a few days ago(50% Deet). The Spray comes in 60ml size and I would estimate it is useful for about two weeks protection for 1 person. Cost was around £5 per 60ml.
I intend to stock up for my next trip.

  • The spaniards have always used cheap large bottles of 'eau de toilette' usually bought in supermarkets out there and they splash it on liberally before dust..
especially good on babies...it does work, been tested many times over the years.. Smell them first though..some are quite pleasant and some are foul.. Good luck and no bites :)

Thank you for the information about Mosquito Milk being available from Chemist Direct. I thought I was going to have to use something else on holiday this year. I find Mosquito Milk to be so convenient and economical to use plus it is not unpleasant as some other preparations can be.

I ordered from Chemist Direct late Tuesday afternoon and the order arrived today. Very good service. I only ordered 2 bottles of the mozzie milk so did pay £2.45 for the P&P but I am very happy to have got this product.

I lived in the topics for a while and malaria can be a risk. The only stuff to use is a 50% DEET product, the brand doesn't really matter, you are taking a chance with anything else.
