How many school uniforms does your child have?

Hello! I know there are threads about the cost of a school uniform, but I was wondering how many do you actually buy for each child? My husband says he only had two when he was a kid but I'm thinking at least three or four? At least that way I'm not washing it every day. :D

DS is 6 and he has 3 pairs of trousers, 3 sweatshirts and 4 polo shirts. Any less than this and I am having to put small loads of washing in. Mind you he is very good at spilling his lunch down his tops so I guess it depends on your child really!

My eldest son (14) has 4 pairs of trousers, 3 polo tops and 2 jumpers.
Younger son (9) has 4 pairs of trousers, 4 polo tops and 2 jumpers - he plays football every day so comes home covered in mud!
Daughter (12) has 2 pairs of trousers, 1 skirt, 4 blouses, 1 blazer, 1 sweater and 1 tie.
It really depends on whether your child is a mucky one lol, if you have time to wash and dry it overnight if it gets dirty - or if you're happy to dab off the worst and leave it til midweek for the 2nd set to be worn.

Thanks that is good to know! My son who is 5 he can get a bit mucky so I got him four of everything and my husband was horrified and thought I went over the top. And my little girl who is going into reception, she can be better but I was still a bit unsure and bought her several as well since I saved up for it all.
  • my son has 5 sets, because sometimes he needs them. he is a very messy child, always covered in mud, lunch, pen etc. and he goes through the knees of his trousers.

On a different note - how do you patch trousers? We have loads of the little squares of material that come with the trousers, but not sure how to attach them to cover the holes that appear at the knees lol!

I'm no good at sewing so bought some of the iron on patches from Woolworths, make sure you cut the patch big enough though.
  • Our kids are apparently in the minority then as they only have 2 of everything. With 4 kids, we do a wash load every day so anything dirty gets washed and dried within a day, during which time the other items are being worn. I only replace during the year if the uniform is unpatchable.

My 5 year old has 8 polo shirts as he is forever coming home with paint on them that won't come off or holes in them, but i thinks its probably because they were in pkts of 4 for £3.00.
He also has 5 pairs of trousers and 3 jumpers and a school fleece.

Eldest who goes to high school this year has 3 trousers, 5 shirts, 2 jumpers and 2 p.e polo shirts and shorts kits, oh and one blazer.
