My machine is rather old and doesn't have the programmes for rye bread or brioche.
I found a recipe for rye bread that I want to try here:
    http://forums.myhomegrainmill.co.uk/100-rye-loaf-in-panasonic-sd253_topic3.html

And a lot of very different recipes for making a Brioche, don't know which one to try....
Does anyone have a tried and tested one that doesn't have more than 80g or so of butter, but is rather sweet? Obviously that can be made using the Basic programme or similar.
    Thanks!

Thanks for that. It was only about a tsp or tbsp of the milk powder, but I suppose I could just maybe forget about that (as I don't have any) and just use a mix of the water and milk - half and half maybe? I'll see how it goes.

Anything has got to be better than the sandwich I tried yesterday. Shop bought bread, got to work and it was mouldy. Clearly I was still asleep when making it in the morning!

I have the same machine and I now use the recipes for the newer models, they work really well, the are great if you want to reduce sugar as well. I suggest downloading the new manual from the Panasonic website.
    e.g.
    Yeast 1tsp
    Strong White Flour 500g
    Sugar 1.5tsp
    Butter 25g
    Salt 1 ¼ tsp
    Water 350ml

Lucky you you've got lots more programmes to play with than mine. :)

I've just started off my first loaf.Boy,the programmes are much longer than with the Kenwood BM.Also I'm surprised that there's only one rise with all the recipes.

Rapid bake will rise a bit less, and also for white bread French, Italian and Sandwich rise differently and have a different texture if that's what you mean.
Yes the Pannie is slow, but bake rapid helps make it a bit faster.
I've never had any other machine, but generally speaking I hear that it's better than the other brands. Let us know what you think :)

I got this breadmaker just after Christmas, and I'm delighted with it.

It produces perfect bread, I've also done rolls, French bread and pizza bases, and it all tastes delicious. Can't wait to try some of the other breads and doughs

I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

The loaf looks good, apart from looking a bit pale, but I didn't have a crust option. On cutting it though,it's very light and airy, but I don't follow an exact recipe.I always add wholemeal flour and porridge oats to the brown bread flour that I use.It tastes ok,but I'll need to play around with the recipes a bit to get it right.
    Thanks.

Quite a few programmes have a crust option, not sure which ones do in your machine, maybe you used a rapid bake one?
With the Pannie if you follow their recipes (particularly the yeast/sugar/salt/liquid ratios) you tend to get really good results. The order in which you put the ingredients is also important, unless you have a yeast dispenser.

I used menu 4 for wholewheat bread. Is wholewheat the same as wholemeal?I made the XL loaf.I wouldn't be happy making bread and not adding porridge oats/oatbran (usually 100g) and wholemeal flour again 100g).That's the way I like my bread.I might even start putting in more wholemeal flour.I usually add a little more water because of the oats.I might try the 'sandwich' option next.

One thing I don't understand is,when listing function availability and time required, the time given during almost each process can vary,ie 01 Basic-rest cycle 30-60 mins,.knead cycle 15-30 mins. The wxplanation they give doesn't make sense to me.Can anyone help?
