  • I bought my 255 second hand and the paddle (silver) had some pretty deep scratches in it and tended to stay in the loaf. I bought one of the new black diamond paddles and it almost always stays in the pan.

A wooden chop stick, however, makes removing the paddle from the loaf a doddle and is far cheaper than a new paddle which is upwards of £15.
  • My panasonic SD255 has taken to throwing out the occasional inch-high brick. There appear to be some bubbles in it but it is, as you'd expect, very dense and sludgy & often has a lot of flour around the bottom edges.

I'm sure it's not down to missing an ingredient and I'm wondering if it could be some kind of fault which causes it to miss out some part of the mixing or rising cycle.

I use Marriages Canadian strong breadmaking flour, £10.99 for a 16Kg bag from Costco, and Dove fast acting yeast, the one which comes in the vacuum packed bright orange foil wrapped block.

Also interested in anyone who knows if there are any good SD257 deals left out there now the new SD250x models are out.

    Cheers

I bought a Wrights 'Chocolate Fudge Cake' mix the other day.
Says on the packet that you add the oil and water first, then the cake mix.
Yet looking through my instruction manual I get the impression that I need to mix by hand, then put it into the breadmaker just to bake.

Is this right? Has anyone used one of these.??

    I have the SD-257.

    I've been Money Tipped!
The recipe I use for a 3 hour brown loaf is saying use 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar - if I use less (as I don't like a sweet tasting loaf) will this change the chemistry of the mix and give me a dodgy result?

Also, my loaves are tasty but the texture is more crumbly than the ones you get from the bakers - how do I make the texture more (hmm, don't know how to explain it really) elastic? Am I making sense :o?

    Thanks

    Tiddly

You could try using oil instead of butter, this changes the texture.

CandyB it says on the packet it's ok so I'd just go ahead and try it. The Panasonic booklet does say to mix cakes by hand and then line then tin and bake, as they might burn.
I did the banana loaf that's on here somewhere and it was fine (well, better than fine!), mixed and cooked in the machine.

Tiddlywinks it shouldn't matter if you reduce the sugar, it mainly helps the crust, although if 1 1/2 tspns is for 500g or so of flour I doubt it would taste sweet.
Could you maybe post the actual recipe you're using, as there are a few variations in the book. For instance you say 'brown', do you mean brown flour or wholemeal, what size loaf, and are you using the 'normal' bake or rapid??
  • Do any of you Panasonic owners make gluten free bread with Doves gf bread flour?

My Panny has a setting for gluten free but i`ve never used it.

I`ve recently made a low carb bread with strange (to me) ingredients on the rapid bake setting and that turned out very well.

Just got a Panasonic Sd251 from Freecycle and excited to get started.

The kind lady also gave me some dried milk. I'm confused now about what to buy - I thought it was just bread flour and then water?

    Any tips/advice?
