I wonder if anyone would be able to help me please?
Im asking on behalf of a friend who is a bit of a technophobe (!!) whose father has recently died, after being ill for several years and his paperwork was left in quite a mess.
HOW does he find out where his dad had shares registered?
He thinks hes managed to track down bank/BS accounts, post office accounts, premium bonds, pension bits, but any ideas on what else he should look for would be greatly appreciated! :D

Can your friend not find the share certificates? Without these it is going to be difficult. Capita https://www.capitaregistrars.com claim to be the major registrar company so it may be worthwhile contacting them
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Can anyone remember a childs savings account that came with Danger Mouse stickers/pens etc? I had an account with them when I was a child but cant remember who it was with and I just wondered if it would still exist or if I have anything in it :)
  • How would I go about finding current accounts opened in my name? I think my Dad may be using my name to open savings accounts, and even credit cards, but want to check before I speak to him about it.

If any of you have let your property with Ludlow Thompson (LT), it's worth checking if you got back the £250 they hold during the tenancy for emergency repairs as they certainly made no effort to return it to me.

Just made a quick call and they're sorting it out right away.
  • I am astonished that 2 or 3 people here say they have lost track of properties they own. Who is living in these properties? Are there people just occupying properties after their landlords have died and keeping quiet? If a random survey like this turns up 2 or 3, how many must there actually be? Incredible. The ultimate money saving tip!
  • I am trying to track some investsments on behalf of my step dad. Due to ill health He has no documentation of the invests, so I dont know where to start.

Is there anywhere I can get a list of companies that have investments in his name.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
  • My Father in law has received a communication from a company called Hoopers that informs him of a relative dying intestate and that he is due money in the hundreds rather than thousands. The company want to charge him 20% + VAT. Now as we are talking of hundreds this seems to be a lot to give away. He lost contact with a lot of his family years ago and has no idea who the person could be. Is there a way to find this info out himself or should he just bite the bullet and sign the form?

    Hi there,

Hope someone can help. When I turned 21 in 2005 I received a letter from Co-Op (I'm 95% sure it was Co-Op!) saying I was now due a pay-out from a fund my parents had set up. I returned their forms but never received the money. I rang them several times but they had no record of me - I went through every address I've ever lived at but they couldn't locate me. My twin's details were also missing from their system.

In 2009 I tried to locate the fund through My Lost Account but nothing has come up (at Co-Op or anywhere else). No one else in my family seems to know about these accounts in order to give me any more information about them so I'm a bit stuck. Literally all the information I have is the Co-Op name and an approxiamate amount - don't even have any kind of account number!

Is there anything else I can do?
  • Hi,

might be a silly question - but if i want to trace an old post office account - the ones everybody had back in the sixties and seventies - would i go on to the NS & I part of the lost account site as i couldnt see it as one of their options?

    thanks
