  • Hello all, Im quite new to this. Its a bit of a long shot but many years ago my mother bought a flat in holland park london and when she came back to chester through illness she left the flat behind. Long story cut short got married to an abusive husband and when she left him in a hurry she left the deeds to the flat in her chester house. Now when i mention that she could still own it she doesnt know where she stands legally asshe bought the flat in the 60's.
Does anyone know if we did some digging that the flat would still be in her name and she would be intilted to anything or has she lost it forever?

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.
    Jamie;)
  • I have an account i set up when travelling in oz in 1989 which has about $70 in it.
Any ideas how i can claim this in reasonably quick fashion? i still have the paying in book but the bank told me it was obsolete or something when i was there in 2001.

obviously the standard way would be to write which may take years to resolve
  • My father died several years ago, and his estate included an apartment in Spain. At the time, the developers of the apartment block were subject to legal action for building regs or something similar, so we took the decision to leave the property out of the estate in order to achieve probate more quickly (I was a skint student at the time and couldn't wait years for the Spanish situation to be resolved).

Reading this thread has just reminded me of the property, and whether it is feasible to make a claim for it - I have details of its address/ownership etc - Does anyone know if there an organisation either in the UK, EU or Spain that can assist with this?

    Thanks in advance
  • Just one quick success story. I completed the form re lost accounts in the article and got a bank book in the post this morning with £40 in it I knew nothing about. :)
  • Hi, My OH and I both had a few shares in companies we have worked for. Neither of us can remember any details of these now. How might we go about searching for them? Many thanks.

I recently got MSE's email and remembered I had found savings accounts books for 2 different accounts 6 years ago and forgotten to do anything about them. I have since been onto my lost account.org and filed the details for both. I then took a look online for one of the accounts which was a Portman savings account. Portman are now part of Nationwide and as i wanted to know what was in the account that I hadn't used since 1993 I took it into Nationwide to see if they could speed up the process. They were great, they took a look on their system and low and behold, my £100 saving had grown by £57.00 in just interest. Better still Portman were bought out in a merger deal with nationwide, and I also stand to receive a check for £160 in windfall as I had £100 at the time of the merger making me an eligible shareholder, I'm still waiting to here back. My other account I am still waiting to hear back on from mylostaccount.org or LloydsTSB who would hold the account. It's been about 3 weeks now since I sent off the details. Thanks Martin and the team, it's been great getting a little extra in tough times!

Thanks to the weekly email a while back I went on to the 'mylostaccount' website and registered details of an account I had back in the 1990's with Lloyds TSB that I had lost track of.....

A few weeks on now and I've just had an email from the BBA (the organistaion who push the banks when you log your details on the mylostaccount.com website)

    It says.....

'Following extensive investigations carried out on your behalf, we regret to advise you that, LloydsTSB Bank plc have not found an account in the name/s you have quoted.'

If you are dissatisfied with the way the bank has dealt with your claim you have the right to appeal through the bank's internal complaints procedure (leaflets are available from the bank's branches). If your appeal is unsuccessful you have the right to refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall London E14 9SR telephone 0845 080 1800 website www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

The Voice of Banking and Financial Services'

This is absolute rubbish - I have just rang TSB up and they have given me the address

    Lloyds TSB
    PO BOX
    BX1 1LT

This is to put my complaint in writing!

I will let you know how I get on!

Funnily enough this was on Wathcdog this week, people chasing old accounts and getting nowhere!

  • hi,

  • Hello All,

A new question if I may. I was looking at old bank statements etc when I saw bank statements for accounts I had forgotten I had. They are from the 1980's and 1990's so I expect now dormant. I want to trace these accounts through the BBA service but before I do I wanted to check something.

The accounts don't have much money in them, but the last statement I have for one of the accounts says I was overdrawn. I can't remember if it was left open as overdrawn or whether I paid the balance due. What would happen if the account was left dormant and overdrawn?!?!!?
