Go to Lakeland website and have a look at vegetable storage bags - they are green coloured plastic bags and keep veg very fresh - can also be reused so worth investing in. I live alone and buy family size packs of veg and store them like this or buy mark downs and they also keep fresh for over a week

I get most of my veg from a weekly veg box and it lasts fine - probably because it was recently picked and not stored in plastic bags.

If you can get carrots/spuds/all root veg with the dirt on they last longer.
Don't wash them until you need them as the mud acts as a preservative.
When I get veg from the veg/greengrocers I take them out of any plastic and put them in the veg drawer of the fridge.
I don't tend to store root veg or squashes though in the fridge because they can get a bit damp which encourages mould.

I think they are the ones I got in the pound shop. They come in a pack containing twenty in two different sizes.

Another one for using up mushrooms, cucumber and brocolli early in the week then carrots, lettuce, cabbage towards the end as they keep better in the veg drawer in the fridge. Potatoes and onions we only buy about once a month and they last for weeks if kept cool (not fridge) and dry. These are all foods that our ancestors used to harvest once a year and eat until spring...

We do cheat with some tinned or frozen veg though!

I keep all mine in the fridge and have also started chopping & blanching & freezing carrots & cabbage etc and slicing mushrooms & onions for the freezer too so I always have options and they are then really easy to cook :)

The stay fresh fruit & veg bags are excellent, I bought mine form the 99p store, 20 in the box. They can be washed & reused. I shouldn't admit it but I had parsnips that had got shoved to the back of the fridge over Xmas that were still usable about 3 weeks after.

I think I might have to invest in some of those bags as our veg doesn't seem to last very long in the fridge (obviously potatoes and onions last well but they're just in the kitchen in paper bags).

I use frozen except for carrots which I keep in the salad thingy in bottom of the fridge and spuds which I keep in a cold dark cupboard.

I use a lot of frozen diced onion (no crying) and sliced mushrooms and peppers. No waste, always available and cheap.
