Braking with the gears what ridiculous practice

Why do HGV's keep making there way into this conversation?
I should hope so too in a haulage company but 99% of car drivers don't check there tyre pressure oil and water EVERY day!!!
Exactly
..driving a HGV is different to driving a car, I thought that we were discussing the correct way to drive a manual car. 0 -
1) If that's a problem, you're not fit to drive.
2) If that's a problem, you're not fit to drive.
3) FAR LESS than braking.
4) Rubbish.
1 - it isn't a problem
2 - it isn't a problem in most circumstances. In an emergency it can be decisive
3 - not in the context of slowing to a planned stop
4 - you are wrong.0 -

Why do HGV's keep making there way into this conversation?
it's simple ,most car drivers have only taken one basic driving test and that can be many years ago for some,
put HGV drivers have had to take more driving tests which is not the basic driving test and we have taken extra tests on top off them all to in prove the way we drive because we want to be the best drivers on the road ,never mind been the safest driver ,that is part of it with out saying ,
and we do lotts of coures to help get the most of the vehicles wheather it's a car or HGV because you can us the same things to get the most out of your car.
all we are trying ton do it show you a different way of driving which will inproove the way you drive and help you get the most out of your car ,safer stopping ,better mpg ect
what is wrong with try to help you inprove your driving skills or point you in the right direction.
what is really wrong with that (apart from my spelling and gramer;))there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -

Not so - brakes don't just lock when you stamp on them...when there's very little friction between the tyre and the road (like, for instance, when it's covered with ice), it can take the slightest of touches on the brakes for it to lock the wheels up...that's just simple physics...0 -
Back on topic...
Were not talking about Ice, Snow, or what if brakes fail.
Normal conditions, approching a stop. Similiar scenario to Toms Video. What do you do?0 -
Tom's braking and changing down at a silly rate in his video, to make a point. If I were to go 54321 like that, I wouldn't be braking, just cruising gently to a stop. (not something I do too often....not a "gentle" driver most of the time. If I was braking like that, I'd probably brake to 40 in 5th, then stick it into 3rd, then second at 20 and, drop the clutch if I'm coming to a complete standstill - then start from 1 again (or 2 depending on the incline) going back up through the gears. This would ensure I was always able to accelerate comfortably if I needed to, would be protected if the brakes failed (of course this is for "just in case"...but that's the point. The one time in a million it happens, I'll be glad I was ready for it. It's kinda like saying we look both ways when we cross a road "just in case" there's something coming...there might not be a need to do it, but there might be), wouldn't spin the engine faster than needs be and would get a good amount of breaking from the downshifts.0
