Currys....

Hello all!
Just thought i would pass this on.

Me and o/h had to get a couple of things from Currys. When it came to paying for the goods, we were overcharged by £1.00.
I pointed this out to the cashier, who grabbed the item from my hands and marched off to check the price (wasn't too disconcerted by this- same thing happened in B and Q the week before:rolleyes: )- no apology though!

On his return, he plugged into his till and asked for my name and address for the refund.
As i was paying cash, and none of this was my fault, i said i wasn't willing to give him my name and address.
He then told me i couldn't have a refund if i didn't tell him where i lived!

Well, the conversation that ensued was heated to say the least.

The matter was finally settled with the cashier asking his manager what the solution could be, and my address was entered into the till as Carpetwright, which is situated nextdoor to Currys.

I just wanted to say i think it's really bad form to have to give a name and address for a refund, when none of this little escapade was my fault, and why the hell should these huge companies have to compile info about us all, when we specify that we dont want our info on their databases?
I can understand there may be people who make a nice little hobby of returning stock, and they might use this info to keep tabs on the few, but i can't believe the rigmarole of trying to get back my money..

Grr... thanks for reading, and please be aware, you don't have to give them this info- at least not when paying cash!

    Computer say no...

Sadly out of town supercentres are all staffed by spotty teens who are picked because of their ability to follow instructions from pieces of laminated a4 or prompts on their screen...

If you shout at them they just scuttle away to find a supervisor.

    No common sense.
    "Love you Dave Brooker! x"

"i sent a letter headded sales of god act 1979"

And so they should, they are not paid enough to have people shouting at them.

Usless people deserve to be shouted at!

  • i think names/addresses are taken to track any repeat offenders, and maybe discourage people who have stolen items and go back for a 'refund'..

if they insist on an address, just give a false one- maybe one of their other shops, so they just end up spamming themselves..!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • I think i was fuelled on by the fact this young lad had no customer service skills- a 'sorry about overcharging you', would have gone a long way....

I agree, they do not have to be rude. As far as customer service is concerned, some places have a lot to learn.

next time ask the manager for his / her name and address as well for your records and maybe a nice little photo as well. It amazes me how when you ring companies they are quick to say sorry we have a noname or first names policy only, but as customers we have to lay out our lifes details. Good for you OP, I would have just left the goods and walked out.

If you need to shout at somebody, then shout at somebody who has the authority to do something about it eg a manager (who are generally well paid)

There's no point shouting at a saturday lad who has no authority to do anything.

Although it should be said that shouting at staff will often only result in you being removed from the store.
  • I don't think this is aimed at me, but can i reiterate, at no point did i shout- i only said the conversation became heated!

I wouldn't dream of shouting at staff... i've been in the hospitality industry too long:shhh:

    xx
