The annoying thing is we can pay them money. We have offered them £150 a month in writing but they aren't accepting it. I want to pay but no one will take my money! How often does that happen???!

It is annoying, Aylana, and, in the end, they probably will accept what you are offering, but they work under the 'assumption' that you can offer them the full amount and that it is up to you, not them, to prove otherwise.

For some inexplicable reason bailiffs seem to believe that they are only called in because you won't pay, and never because you can't pay.

Occasionally, unfortunately only occasionally, people like Herbie come along and use the Law to wipe the 'smug' smile from the faces of thugs like Rossendale.

Good plan Incisor will do that!

rog2, it is awful that they work like that. If only there were more people like Herbie to help others out with Bailiff problems. I just wish they would get to the point where they accept the money a bit quicker rather than dragging it out!!!

Worried user, just re-read your post (in a calmer state of mind!) and noticed that the bailiff said he was going to take your dog! What a cheek! If the guy we are dealing with had come round and said he was going to take my dogs I probably would have tried to strangle him with my bare hands! These horrid bailiffs shouldn't be able to say things like this and frighten people half to death. The nice bailiffs definately seem to be in the minority!

I've just caught up on your thread, looks like your still having some trouble with them. I have to say I don't think there are such things as nice bailiffs! I've certainly never heard of any.
The council were rather appalled over them threatening to take my dog too, which is probably why it was dealt with so quickly!
I hope everything sorts its self out for you.

    Have PM'd you Herbie.

worried user, my mam claims to have dealt with a nice bailiff once! However I think the nature of the job probably attracts people who like to bully and throw their weight around. Speaking of which I didn't get to look up stuff on Rossendales last night at work because my manager was busy throwing her weight around and bullying staff! Maybe I should suggest a change of job to her? I will do some research today and see if I can put anything together that will convince the council to take the debt back.

Update. Bailiff just came round again and gave us another 24 hour notice. As it is the weekend he says he will be coming round on Tuesday to take our stuff. He claims that "he is doing all he can" for us, ha!!!! He also said he cannot possibly accept the £150 a month without the initial payment of £476. Will he actually turn up when he says this time??? The saga continues!

There is, Aylana, a maximum number of visits that a bailiff can make, and charge you for - I'm not sure, but I think they can only charge for two visits.
The main thrust of the matter is that bailiffs, generally, do not want to take domestic goods - they have to turn them to cash and that is labour intensive as well as a 'gamble' for them. Most will prefer to take 'walking possession' and, usually, will end up taking the cash that you offer.
It seems, to me, that this particular 'bailiff' feels that there is still some 'leverage' in your case, but, that said, they are very unpredictable.

Aylana, I haven`t really got much advice to give, but I do hope you get this sorted very soon, one way or the other. It`s so stressful to deal with.

When I was behind with CT, I got them to take the debt back and let me pay a few £`s a month. Fingers crossed that you can do that too.

    Best of luck!

    Hi

I've been dealing with rossendales a while now. got a note through my door yesterday for this yrs unpaid council tax

i think i've been lucky cos the bailiff i spoke sounded well pretty resonable, he said it was policy that if i wanted to pay in installments i had to sign a walk in possesion order and something about a levy charge? I told him firmly but politley i wouldnt sign anything, because 6 months ago my partner was sick for 3 weeks and rossendales wouldnt give us any leaway for payment, i had 2 accounts at the time, one with a walk in possesion order, one without so i know its total crap that he needs a walk in possesion order.

he was very resonable, said as i'd had a lot of dealings with them he'd call the office, and pop the relevant paper work through the door.

I have my reference number, and thhey're already set up on my online banking so thats that as far as i'm concerned.

he was more than willing to give me 2 weeks to come up with the first £100 too, and said and I quote 'don't worry I won't be breaking down your door or anything'......a nice bailiff??? I need to lie down!!!!

i hope it works out sweets xxxxx

Thanks guys. Not much I can do really now as it is officially the bank holiday weekend and we couldn't get through to the council before they closed this afternoon. Will keep updating as things happen, to keep myself occupied if nothing else lol!!

Update: Nothing to say. Bailiff has not turned up again! Spoke to council to see if they will recall the debt but the guy we spoke to was really quite unpleasant and dismissed everything we had to say. Friday is payday and the day we were hoping to make our first regular payment to them. I have some giro slips they gave us so should I just make the payment anyway?
