  • Just to let people know that I have found an excellent German comparison site. It's called mietwagenmarkt.de. I have just booked a Gold Packet (every possible insurance included, additional driver included, unlimited mileage) economy car - Volkswagen Polo - from 5.9.12 to 16.9.12 from Stuttgart for 274.92 Euros with a company called Caro. If you look up Caro direct, their charges are much higher.

You can get the terms in English, and as you are probably aware, most Germans speak English, so you can email or phone them on their free number, advertised on the site. I emailed and gave my phone number in a reply to a very helpful gentleman, who rang me back and sorted everything out for me. Very, very, much cheaper than other companies. I am able to take the car into Austria and Switzerland. Apparently there would be additional charges if I went to Italy, but that doesn't apply to me.

    Hope this helps someone.

We want to hire a car in Phoenix airport on 2 Sept about 11am, 1st night Sedona, 2nd GC, then 2 nights Vegas, then varied route thro Calif. ending in SF where we hand it in late afternoon in city on 11th Sept. as won't need it there.

We need 2 drivers, maybe Ford Focus size?

Some search engines won't even show multi state hires. I know many charge extra for out of state drop off. Plus Dollar dont seem to give option for 2nd driver. Don't want any expensive extra surprises when we arrive.

Does anyone have any knowledge of who would be good to use in our situaton please?

I got a quote from Alama UK web site at £560.38 included 1 way charge £298 2 drivers economy 4 door.

I then went on usrentacar.co.uk and chose Alamo economy 4 dr chevrolet a/c auto and chose Platinum Picking which says it includes an extra driver. Which seems to be like for like.

Unlimited Mileage, CDW, SLI, UMP, Basic Roadside Assistance, Local Taxes, Airport Surcharges, Additional Drivers, First Tank of Fuel, Tyre, Windscreen and Under Carriage Cover £281.06 (GBP)

There wasn't a drop down box to add 2nd driver, just of you picked Gold or Platinum it sadi 2nd driver included. Don't want any suprise extras when I get there.

Why is this so much cheaper? Great if its right but am I missing something? Thanks anyone
  • Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get cheap car hire with either a small young driver surcharge or none at all. The pain is my age as I'm a professional bus driver with the added driver cpc qualification which for me is mandatory. It's fustrating for me as I can drive hundreds of people around in vehicle that surpasses 11 and a half tonne unladen but when it comes to a car I'm classed as high risk due to my age. Anyone with any ideas as I would be extremely grateful. I'm trying to hire for three days as I'm going to vist long lost family members. I know I'm probably going to have to pay the surcharge but I don't want to pay Ni on £90 extra!

Do all car hire companies in faro block several hundred pounds from your credit card on picking up the car. I was going to take out the insurance with insurance4carhire as we did last time, but companies still want a massive credit card deposit. Any advice?

Beware of the fuel and exchange rate con this year.

Booked through car though Auto Europe for pick-up at Ibiza airport. Got charged €68 for a tank of petrol, when I refuelled it at a local station is cost €35.

Also got an invoice through the post for a smashed window and even though I told them at the time I wanted to be billed in Euros, they billed me in sterling at an exchange rate of .89, the rate is presently .79 to the £

Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Beware of a minor trick when using quidco on rentalcars.com

The price for a rental with a "free additional driver" (according to quidco) is the same as not using quidco and when you select 1 additional driver as normal.

Need car hire for 3 days in Iceland. Pick up from Airport.

Anyone know the best place to go?
  • Feeling like ive been a bit conned this morning. Using the sugested comparision website carrentals.co.uk/ searched and found the cheapest hire car, which was through eRentals, £207, great or so i thought. Booked the vehicle, received the voucher, which told me it was an Alamo car, when i did the initial search i remember the Alamo car was £497, so i thought im quids in here! so i double checked, did the same search, sure enough the Alamo car was £497, so i clicked it.....it wasn't £497 at all, it was £197!!
Obviously am now feeling like i've been tricked into picking what seemed to be the best price and paid more for it! Gutted
