How is everyone getting on? Things have been pretty quiet in here recently. Does that mean we're all getting on ok?

Hi Maxco. All ok with me. My boss asked if i'd speak to someone at work. Spent an hour with her yesterday. Her partner keeps gambling all their money away.
Given her some advice but i dont see it getting better as he is adamant he doesnt have a problem. I could tell this poor woman is in bits and its making her very unwell :(
Glad i could a little though

Hi cantcope & twirly, glad to hear your both getting on ok. Just keep on going Twirly, stay strong.

Nice to hear your helping a fellow co-worker Cantcope. Does she know of your past experience with gambling? She's lucky to have someone like yourself to help her. You must have seen or heard of these sorts of stories a lot at GA (partners wasting money, not aware of problem etc.).

She knows about it now!! my boss had told her she "might" know someone then asked if i'd mind speaking with her. I dont mind at all. It feels good to be able to offer someone a shoulder.

Fine at the moment :) not been getting bad urges for a week or so so been easier. i cant even remember how i felt the last time i bet, nor the date i last bet tbh though im sure i could search back on this topic and find out. but right now i dont want too. all for me is about looking forward now, paying my debts and enjoying a debt free gamble free life eventually!

Hello George, I'm not an expert on debt, well not getting out of it, but I know a hell of a lot about gambling. I am a compulsive gambler, infact I was once described as a psychotic manic gambler in crown court.

In my opinion it makes no sense just to tackle the consequences of your gambling, ie your debt. You need to tackle the root cause you say gambling isn't your problem, its a crutch.--If you need a crutch to cope with life mate, then you have a problem.

There is some great support available for gamblers who seriousley want help. The first step is admitting you have a problem you cant just gamble a little bit, you cant do it full stop.

I can empathise a great deal with you, I lost my Dad in August and have since gambled again resulting in me coming here looking for debt advice --AFTER I HAD SOUGHT HELP FOR THE GAMBLING.

I am new to MSE but quite a frequent poster on the gambling therapy website I find that site really helpful with my gambling recovery, there are forums with threads on not unlike this one. The thing is recovery will only work if you are dedicated to it, if you are there is a lot of help out there.

I have started my own thread on here concerning my recent gambling and the debts, I would be grateful for any input you might have for me with my dilllema.

    Cheers.

    Geordie.
