garage phoning mum to say mot out!!

apparently the garage where i have my car serviced and mot'd phoned my mum on the 5th asking for me and told her my mot was expired!! actually it runs out on the 15th!! i have not lived at the address for many years but origionally when i purchased the car i was at my parents and they had my contact details their. as i have moved around (still local) i have given them my details they have both my home no and mobile number on their database and over the years have contacted me to tell me my car was ready on the appropriate number as advised.
the garage has recently relocated out of town - my dad had his car serviced there a few weeks ago and they were empty. as i have a very unusual surname there was no doubt that i am conected to my parents - and all of us have our cars serviced and mot'd at the same place.
Surley there are DPA issues phoning my mum and telling her my MOT is out of date - it is not yet - particularly if the info is incorrect.
i have had major surgery and been told not to drive for 2 months so therefore cant get to garage for MOT, the car is off the road and has a tax disk (valid) and is insured. when i can saftley drive i will get an MOT - possibly not from old faithfull garage!!

I'm not really sure what your problem is really. It sounds like the garage are being helpful - so many people forget their MOT's - you wouldn't believe!
I guess that you maybe don't get on with your parents that well, and that this has caused some family friction. I'm sorry for that. I also hope that you feel well too soon.
I think that a friendly call to the garage would be better, ask them to update their database. People do make mistakes and it looks like they haven't updated your details accordingly.Genie

What is the question? I dont understand what the problem is, garage have tried to ensure that your car isnt without MOT, a whole ten days early and you're goin off on a rant. Baffling0

Something to do with the Data Protections Act.....

Are you sure, the message was not "due to expire"?i have not lived at the address for many years but origionally when i purchased the car i was at my parents and they had my contact details their
Did you ask them to remove/amend you details? Did you ask them not to contact you?
I'd guess they've called and left a message with someone who offered to take a message.
I'm not sure how you think they've breached the DPA though, surely your grateful for the service. We get a letter every year from our MOT station, whilst useless to us as we plan on MOTing a month in advance, it must be great for the more absentminded.0 -
I'm stressed beyond belief with worry over the DPA and its implications over this ... (Or is OP thinking that this could be an opportunity to sue/take legal action against the garage - we are getting to be very like the US and sue whenever we can... ) Not sure contacting your mum counts tho.........
I'm going to bed - not sure I will be able to sleep.

Perhaps if there was some sort of estrangement and she and her mum did not get on well then I would just about understand having a problem with it.
As for car being off road, unable to drive it and not used, cash in the tax disc for remaining months and declare the vehicle SORN. When you are able to drive book it in for an MOT.0 -
the last contact i have had with the garage is at my home no for the last few years .. no longer at my parents address they know i am not there for last 8 years - to phone my mum and tell her my mot has expired - when it has not - surely this is wrong .. i dont need a sorn as it is taxed for 3 months!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. If you're not going to use it in those 3 months, you can claim back 2/3 months worth of tax (remaining full months left on it) and declare it SORN. No point paying road tax if you're not using the road :beer:sillyvixen wrote: »i dont need a sorn as it is taxed for 3 months!!0
