Chimney lining & flue for stove

Also most chimneys in 120 year old terrace houses are 9 inch square....other houses can be 12" and 14" square. To sweep a 14" flue properly you need to use around a 17"-18" brush (the brushes are round so you need it oversized to get into the corners). Therefore if the only access to the flue is through the stove or through a 6" access door in the register plate or through an access door in the flue you cannot get a big enough brush through to sweep the chimney. The brush wouldn't even tickle the sides. Also soot cannot be removed. We also sweep flues and used to walk away from a lot of jobs but most of the flues we sweep nowadays are stoves that we've installed so 99% of them are lined.0

there is a company that sells multifuel stoves and installs the liner i had the stove and liner for under 1k i have put the details of the company i used very good indead and the installers from there somerset depot were first class would recomend them anytime and there stoves are very good good luck and let us know if you do get a stove and linerjeannieblue wrote: »Well, if it costs a grand to line my chimney - I think the whole idea is off! Can't afford that, way over my budget. Thought the stove idea might have been a pipe dream, shame really - so many people would like to install them, but cost of doing so is very pricey it seems.
Few sales of stoves could be lost over this I guess...
I'll still get some quotes in anyway - just for the laugh if nothing else..

Just out of interest.....what stove did you get? How tall was your flue and did they fit a cowl?0

Hi - am in Notts and getting chimney sweep out on Wed for chimney have just lovingly unbricked. Would love to have stove - but like other posters - cash is sparce. Would love to know who you used to check your chimney! Cheers.0 -
Just a word of caution, some sweeps may be registered with HETAS but not actually for fitting flues and stoves. You need to ask for your HETAS completion certificate and data plate from them (and dont forget your warranty for the lining)0

Would still be intrested to hear what stove and make of liner Lamplighter2 got for less than 1k. I could supply and fit a stove and liner for under 1k but you'll probably need to pull it all out and replace everything within 5 years or so. B & Q sell wood burners for around £150........absolute junk though.0

Ditto the chinese and indian imports we have seen.
Ive not read all this but if the chap is the one who got it from directflues, you can have a look on there for the prices. 904l 150 MM is nearly £40 a metre, the cheapest stove seems to be about £500 I think, so then you have the clamp, insert, adaptor, top plate, register plate and insulation AND then the cost of the labour to do the job, let alone the man's overheads. I cant see how the job would have been done for less than £1k.0 -
