What's the best alternative to BT broadband...

Options
...when none of the seemingly good deals are available in my area. I've tried Sky, O2, Orange, Talk Talk etc and none of their best deals (ie free) are available. I've been with BT for 16 months so am looking to change if poss and it is cheaper/better elsewhere - but I'm starting to think it's not worth it. Haven't looked at Tiscali but don't think I will bother reading most reviews! Any thoughts would be gratefully received!

I signed with Tiscali talk/broadband tomorrow a year ago they took the phoneline from BT ,immediately the callerdisplay did not work ,then 4 WEEKs ago the telephone stopped working cannot receive or make calls ! still paying for the free calls and line rental ! hundreds of calls to their 0871 number to their tel. helpline in India on my" pay as u go mobile "costing in excess of £60 now.I have also written to customer services recorded deliv. twice got no answer! emailed them no answer , helpline tell porkers ,today bt engineer booked finally but guess what they called to say the same thing as before the problem is in exchange and they will try to fix it ,so no engineer today. This is what was told to me 4 weeks ago ! What more I cannot go elsewhere I am told I need to sign with BT for minimum contract 1 year before my line will be free to go elsewhere as tiscali has a tag on my phoneline! Something to look for if you go with tiscali, my nerves are shot:mad: Does anyone know how I can move my line without having to take bt linerental for a year?
So think hard before signing with tiscali ,when things go wrong you are alone they dont care!!!
  • I would say stick with BT! The service is not as always on as someone like Tiscali but at least if you have problems their numbers are freephone. I do not know of another provider that gives freephone support and indeed Tiscali charge a fortune. They also are very haphazard in collecting bills often forgetting for months at a time, you never get any correspondence from them and the customer services are useless. Same goes for Orange!

Yesterday Tiscali finally called Bt to check my telephone line after 5 WEEKS of calling them , engineer found fault at the telephone pole outside my house! Fixed it in 10 minutes. Tiscali looked for problems in my equipment and any other excuse instead of calling BT to check the line so for five weeks no tel.line , then yesterday had the nerve to send email to say they will refund me £10 yes £10 discraceful, what is that compared to all the money I spent on my expensive pay as you go vodaphone at often £3/4 per call over five weeks! I am livid.

Entanet is a good provider if you cannot get any of the others.

The only down side is they have off peak and an on peak times and you have An allowance i.e. on peak 30GB offpeak 300GB that is around £19.99 per month

Here are a couple of resellers
