4th September 2008
I was officially made bankrupt at 11-15 am today at Norwich County Court along with my dh.:j :j :j :j
We got to the court at 9-40am, had to go through a security gate. We were then shown to a room were there were 4 counters, 1 of them was for bankruptcy. We had an appointment for 10-30 am, we had to wait a little while as we were early and the desk didn't open until 10 am. We were called to the desk at 10-25 am and the clerk went through our forms, we had at swear on the bible and then after we signed the forms we had to pay our bankruptcy fees. This took until 10-50 to complete as there were 2 of us going bankrupt and we had 3 copies of our forms each.
We were then asked to sit back down and wait for the clerk (the same one that checked our forms) to show us to the district judges waiting room. When we go there it was quite busy and we were told by the usher that we had to wait until the judge was free of other cases. We waited for approx 10 mins before the usher came up to us and directed us to the district judges room (was surprised it was so quick), the district judge asked us if we had got any advice before seeking bankruptcy and if we had considered our options carefully (we had), we were asked if we knew the implications of going bankrupt (wich we did). We were asked for our middle names as they weren't on the forms, he then asked if we were sure we wanted to go bankrupt (silly question :rotfl: ) and would we like him to sign the forms (another silly question :rotfl: ), we replied yes, then it was all done and both of us were declared bankrupt at 11.15am.
We then had to go back down to see the clerk to pick up our bankruptcy papers. We had to wait around 20 mins for this as she was checking other peoples bankruptcy papers first.
All in all the process took just over 1 hour and we were never made to feel bad, to blame or silly by any member of staff.
When we first got to court there was a couple of people come in who were there for the same reason as us but none of us spoke, but as soon as we came down from seeing the district judge we all had a chat while waiting for our bankruptcy forms - I guess it must have been the relief that it was nearly all over that broke the ice, we found out that one of the guys who was there for bankruptcy used to live a few doors down from us before we moved last year - its a small world isn't it. It was all nerves before hand and a few of us were chatty afterwards.
We are now waiting to here from our OR who will be phoning us sometime tomorrow.0 -

Our OR phoned this morning. She sounded really nice on the phone.
She asked us if there was anything we wanted to know or wanted help with. I asked about the bank accounts and what would happen. She is going to write to Nationwide and Co-op and say that she has no interest in them so hopefully they will stay open (fingers crossed).
Our OR made an appointment to go through our bankruptcy froms on monday at 9-30 am, this is for both of us, she just made it sound like she wanted a informal chat - not like an interview at all, so fingers crossed it will be a pleasant eperience (if we can call it that).0 -
