Good to hear things are progressing nicely. Bet those kids enjoyed their icecreams. It is so nice when you can treat your kids and i also think they appreciate it more, when it is done out of the blue like that. Well one and keep posting. It helps not to feel so alone, which bc more often that not does.D

I rang the courts this morning as I wanted to double check that they had both me and dh down for an appointment - they had. I took this opertunity to ask a few questions.

I asked them how many copies of the form that I need to have, they said that just bring the one with have each and they will do the photocopies for us - they want 3 copies.

I asked where we had to go on the day as we don't live in the area where the courts are (The courts are in Norwich), we were told to go to the public counter with our forms and money first and then to see the district judge, but we will probably have to wait in between cases to see the judge. Then we have to wait for the forms to be typed up.

Some unrelated news. Last night I won £5 on a free online scratch card game (called Hang On) on Tombola.co.uk. I am just waiting for them to send out my cheque. (I haven't given them my bank details as I am not interested in online gambling - just wanted to play the free game :rotfl: )

Things are still quiet on the creditor front.

Today has to be the worst for me emotionally. I feel so drained by the experience (this is like an emotional rollercoaster, one minute upbeat and the next down) and feel increasingly worried that I might not be able to open a new basic bank account when I go bankrupt.

It is worrying that co-op are now tightening the reigns with their cash minder account, there doesn't seem to many options available to bankrupts anymore with reguards to a basicbank account. Think banking has been mentioned a lot as a possibility but the set up fee and monthly running costs is very off putting. Also from what I have read they seperate your money to pay your bills and give you the rest. That may cause problems for people on benefits that get paid weekly and not monthly.

On a positive note I went down to my local town hall to see about going on the electoral list to boost my chances of getting a basic bank account when the time comes. Nationwide have said that they will freeze my account and I have to get the OR to fax them to give them permission to unfreeze the account but I don't want to take any chances as I need a bank account to have my housing benefit paid in. 08/08/08's recent problems have only heightened my worries and I hope she gets a happy outcome to her banking worries.

I am thinking of applying for either a Barclays Cash Card account or Co-op Cashminder account sometime during next week. I am just worried that it would get frozen on the day of bankruptcy and I would be no better off then I am now.

It is such a hard decision.

Either apply for an account now and risk it getting frozen.

    or

Wait until day of bankruptcy and apply for an account then. The draw back to this is worrying if the bank account (if accepted) will be set up on time. From what I have been reading on here there is a backlog in 1 of the banks and the either is making it harder for bankrupts to open an account.

    What to do :confused::confused::confused:

When i applied for my co-op account(post bc) he said they were one of the very few banks which did not freeze acounts when you go bc. So i would apply now. You do not have to use it. Just have it ready. Here is the number to call 0845 212 212 they are open until 4pm today and they usually tell you over the phone if you have been accepted. In my 10mths on this forum i have only known 1 co-op account get frozen so go for it.D

Let us knw how you get on. It usually takes about 7 days for the card ect to come through. Also if you want to do internet banking you have to ring them when you get your account detail and register before you can do it. D

Just come off the phone with them.

They took all my information, told me that they were going to do credit scoring for ID purposes and they do checks for fraud.

I was asked to set up a password.

The lady ran the stuff through her computer and I have got my application referred to the underwriters. I was given an applicaton number and asked to call back either Wednesday or Thursday to find out about the account. I told them that I was not yet on the electoral list and that I was in the middle of registering - just waiting on the paperwork - she said that it was not a problem.

I hope things go through ok and I get accepted. Bit worried about the credit scoring thing. I told her that I was filling for bankruptcy on 4th September and she said it was not a problem.

morning jaks, good new for you re the bank a/c - sounds like you will get it sorted.
sorry if my wailing lately has freaked you or anybody else out. coop would have been absolutely fine but then not for me because i owed them a lot of money. this does seem to be a new policy of theirs and some are making it, some are not. but if you didn't have debt with them it should be plain sailing....
i am now applying to barclays and hoping that will go ok for me.
yes, it is up and down innit? this place great for getting us through tho, thinking of you, x 08
  • Hi Jaks,

With reference to Mercers and the debt collectors in general. I find that the best coarse of action is to not give them any of your personal details etc.
When they call me I will only give them a part of my post code or the month in which I was born. Never give out your personal details over the phone. It could be anyone calling you!!
