I really appreciate everyone's advice. It's not that I don't want to take it... well, maybe it is!:p But not in an arrogant way, I know it's far better to budget properly, but for me it's still baby steps and if i try to do too much I'll probably give up too soon.

I mentioned the budget because I can see the danger of you falling into the trap that we've fallen into (and I think we are still in, if I am being honest) Because my OH has a reasonably well-paid job, if we aren't careful we start spending to match the lifestyle we feel we should be able to afford ... and then six months later realise that, no, we didn't have as much spare cash as we thought. I do honestly think that if you sat down and did a full SOA, adding all the bits like holidays and birthdays etc, you'd be able to see how much 'spending money' you have spare each month. By avoiding looking at it, it is easy to feel that there is cash available on months with no bills, and then finding yourself short when the bills finally do arrive. But everyone has their own way of doing things, and you are certainly more inventive at bringing money into the household than I've ever been!

But the main thing is that you are not to stop posting..........whatever spreadsheet stuff is going on, you have to come here and report to us! OK?!

Yes ma'am! Panda reporting in this morning with the plan for today:

Greg to Doc at 11.45 for 3rd round of jabs
Going to Sheffield with friends to take kids swimming
Build framework for bathroom toilet, worktop etc (very complicated - best left to OH I think!)
LIST THAT EFFING STUFF ON EBAY (bet I don't)
Ring Tesco re Clubcard address THEN order some free wine
    Continue the endless washing pile
    Check all email/MS/surveys, do spreadsheet.
    Tidy up the study
    Do my squares

AND...due to popular demand, try and prepare something resembling an accurate budget.

El, I'm a Scot as well, so my parents say I live down south. It's just southerners that think we're up north!

Are you having fun with todays job list? I have come back from work and somehow ended up sat back on the sofa. I have all these plans in my mind as i drive home and then end up doing nothing when i get in.

you will have to post us some pics of everything you are doing in the house, sounds like its going to be brilliant by the time you are finished.

  • Got to say Panda Paws that its whatever works for you.

Everyone is here to support and your system sounds good :D

As well as the budgeting/spending spreadsheet I also had a very complicated one that took each debt month by month to give us the debt free date. It doesn't do interest cal's so its very simple. After reading Hypno's thread the other day I realised this was far to complicated and now I've got one that reduced the debt owed now by each monthly reduction.

Its only got 18 lines on it and its fantastic motivation at seeing how far forward we can bring our DFD. It working wonderfully for us which is what matters.
