I reckon if I put my sheet with the squares to be coloured in, somewhere public then someone is bound to "enhance" it.......:rotfl:

I made an attempt, but my 3 year old decided to make his own enhancements. Will try again when he's asleep!

If i write out a list of daily jobs you can bet that the same 2 or 3 things wont get done every time. ironing is the main job that always gets left. i always have to stop myself from getting someone in to do it for me.

How is the £70 a day going? did you get everything onto ebay?

  • I've so got to say well done pandapaws on getting as far as you have. :T

No mean feat with a FT job and two small kids. This MSE DFW thing does take over and I'm sure I could do it full time if I could afford it :rotfl:

I've read some of your previous posts and have just read this thread.

In my experience (LBM 5/07 onwards) its the not budgetting for the little bits which partially got us into our debt in the first place. Not of the £52k I grant you but quite a lot of it.

I agree with someone else (sorry name escapes me) who said that its a pain tracking it all but the tracking of it means the money is there for when its needed.

I have pots of money all over the place for the bits which get spend anyway and I think need to be budgeted for including: Xmas, clothes, insurances, cars which is seperate from petrol  , birthdays (including the b/d parties the kids get invited too), kids activities (they costs peak at the start of the school term) etc.

Its a labour of love I guess since I have to sit down a couple of times a week and enter into our spending diary (fab spreadsheet) whats been spend and then transfer money around.

The spending diary has been fantastic at showing us how we are spending our money and in the seven months I've been doing it we've revised the budget several times as I am sure we will do again.

It wouldn't work for everyone but its a fantastic system for us which has grown from spending time on this forum learning from what works for others.

Good luck as you move forward :T

Thanks for that post WorkingHard. I think we did get into debt in the first place because we just spent whatever we needed. Me & OH have talked about setting aside money for various things, but when it came down to it we decided just to chuck everything at debts instead.

I've acutally devised a new spreadsheet (oh how we all love those!) which takes a slightly different slant on the whole business, I could bore you with it...I shall...;)

Instead of just listing our debts, we're also including our bank balance on the SS, and the total debt is calculated as total amount in the bank minus all amounts owed. So when we get paid our debt total instantly drops by nearly 5k, but as the month goes on it will rise again as each bill, repayment or spend comes out. This seems (only 3 days in mind you!) to be working really well in the motivation dept. I've been updating every day as things come out the bank and it makes me really determined not to spend anything unnecessary.

I really appreciate everyone's advice. It's not that I don't want to take it... well, maybe it is!:p But not in an arrogant way, I know it's far better to budget properly, but for me it's still baby steps and if i try to do too much I'll probably give up too soon. I'm going to give it a shot for a while and just try to spend as little as possible and see how we go. Then I can come back in 6 months time with my tail between my legs for budgetting advice.:o

    Night all for now!

Whatever works best for you is what you should do - we all attack our debt in different ways, and we all change tack along the way to try new ideas when the old ones get stale.....

But the main thing is that you are not to stop posting..........whatever spreadsheet stuff is going on, you have to come here and report to us! OK?!
