Personally I would pay the credit card and close it to resist all temptation of ever spending on it again - once it is closed the temptation is gone!

But that goes against what others will say, re balance transferring etc......so you have to do what you feel is right for you!

Halifax refunded me my charges of over £3000 a couple of years ago. They were very little hassle for me......glad to see they are still paying out!!

I'm curious Panda. What have you got stashed in 40 foots worth of storage thats worth paying £120 a month for? More to the point how many carloads / van loads would it take to empty it? Think I'd rather have it crammed into the garage / wedged under the dining table / blocking up the porch than I would paying out £1440 a year to open a door and look at it once in a while.

Then again if someone said to me for £120 a month we'll take the Land Rover out of your living room (nope not joking) I would bite their hand off (however I'd also make sure they took the bits from the kitchen and the dining room and the loft and the shed and the garden too). Any guesses what the OH does for fun?

:rotfl: And I thought we were bad! Tell you what: you pay me £120 a month and I'll put your Land Rover in my storage unit :D ! Ok, you did ask what's in it: there's quite a bit of my Ebay stuff worth a bob or two (hence I get away with calling it a 'business' expense - I got the unit when I moved out of an office that was costing £500 a month, so it's an improvement on that). There was until recently all Adam's baby stuff but that's now in the garage as we're using lots of it for Greg. There's all the Xmas stuff as we didn't have a loft in the old house. There's a full gym that just needs to be sold, and loads of furniture that we kept to see if we needed it after we moved, most of which can get sold. There's also loads and loads of general tat that just got dumped in there because we had the space - boxes full of books, kitchen stuff, boxes I packed before we moved, all our tools etc. It DOES need to go, but before we can clear it out we need to clear the garage out here so we can move it all in there. At the moment the garage is choca with other stuff as we've still not unpacked fully from the move! If I could sell absolutely everything we don't need then I could probably pay off half the debt - no exaggeration. We just don't have time to get it all done - it's not the sort of thing you can do for half an hour while the kids are napping. Once we've got serviceable bathrooms in the house it will be No 1 priority.

I'm not as bad as a friend of mine though - she paid £80 a month for 6 months for a tiny storage unit, and all she kept in it was a dishwasher! At least we're getting value for money in the meantime!

Hypno, car is on a 10-day auction, so finishes next Sunday. It's up to £1800 now though with 27 watchers, which isn't bad since it's such a boring car!

Fab result Amy with the charges! It'll be a great boost to the wedding fund and hopefully means you won't end up paying for any of the wedding on the cards.

    Hi Panda!

Wow.... well, I understand functioning bathrooms being a priority even over listing and paying stuff off - its not like you're falling further behind with the debt. But still.... to be able to halve your debt! I hope you're able to do it soon.
