Honestly she sounds not only like a backyard breeder but possibly an animal hoarder? Whilst I abhor irresponcible breeding then animal hoarding is near enough a mental illness and it is possible she simply doesn't see the state her home is in and that she's neglecting these animals care...
I don't know if social services might be worth notifying? Not just for the dogs sake, but living in filth like that will have a huge impact on her health too...

    Hi Mrs Tine

That's why I wasn't happy at seeing the conditions these pups were living in, they couldn't have been healthy for anyone whether it be humans or animals.

Maybe she should also be reminded that any pups she sells will be 'fit for the purpose'

SoGA wouldn't apply to a private sale, would it?

Good to see she's giving up breeding.

I'm not saying it doesnt work but I think its pretty cruel to leave a dog without water, regardless of who does it. The dog should be able to drink when IT wants to, not when YOU want it to. Especially a puppy which has such a tiny system. If you consider how quickly water and food goes through such a little animal, not letting it drink for hours is akin to yourself not drinking for a day. And dropping your friends breeding qualifications is really not different from someone dropping their educational ones.

And no, I'm not trying to start an argument, this just goes against every piece of advice I've ever heard about keeping dogs.

I don't leave mine without water overnight as I don't think that it's right ( you know yourself if you wake up thirsty there's nothing worse) but then, needing a wee is not a pleasant feeling either, so you may need to get up in the night the first couple of weeks to let pup out.
If this helps, we have 'puppy bed time' at around half eleven (he often takes himself off before then anyway) when he has a wee before bed. He goes into his crate and is settled for the night. Then when we are ready to go to bed, he is put outside for another wee and re-settled. He has water in his bowl for overnight, but we certainly don't fill it with ice cold stuff from the tap just before bed as he loves this and will drink it all day if you let him. A small amount of water to satisfy his thirst over night and then fresh water the next morning will leave him a drink if he needs it but not enough to need a wee every hour.
Oh and I know people say make a fuss when he goes in the garden, but we've found that if you do that at 3 am, the pup tends to keep waking up just to see you 'cos it's fun! So if we are woken up to go out, we just open the back door first, then the cage, he goes out for a wee, then back on his bed and the cage is shut. We don't speak or praise him at this time (we do it like crazy all other times of course) but this way, the dog is relieved but without too much distraction to either him or you.
It aint over til I've done singing....

Thats fair enough jellicat, you put your arguement across well, without coming across as a know it all:T

    DONT FORGET PET INSURANCE!

Dog tag, its a legan necessity to have name address and phone number on tag, microchip is advisable too in case collar gets lost if heaven forbid he/she escapes.

Did you not think about a rescue pup? too many dogs die cos breeders breed and a cockapoo is a crossbreed not a breed but im sure lovely all the same.

You are all welcome at freetogoodhome.invisionplus.net where rescue pets are matched with good homes and owners needing to rehome are supported to do so responsibly.

if you "tap" a dog on the nose all you are teaching that dog is to be handshy and one day if someone puts a hand down to clap it, it will bite as thinks that hands means hit?!! Please do take this pup to the vet, if he is scrambling around and biting when handled chances are he is in pain. If not then it is just unsocialisation due to being taken from his mum FAR too early. He will not have learnt bite inhibition so a yelp from you or whoever he mouths will soon teach him this,,also stand up anf fold your arms if he starts nipping, No fun to lose a playmate so he will quickly learn what is not allowed. Visit us at freetogoodhome.invisionplus.net if you need any further help or advice with him as he grows up
