Sorry for such a depressing post but was just wondering if anybody could offer any experience of a missed miscarriage and what was likely to occur in the way of bleeding etc..?
I have had a missed miscarriage myself 6 years ago but I was given a d&c immediately so the bleeding following was just light and all my pregnancy symptoms stopped.
This time I need to go back for a confirmation scan tomorrow as when I was scanned last week they say it was consistent with a pregnancy only 5 weeks along so they were not able to just say it wasn't viable and go ahead with the d&c. I know that the pregnancy has ended as I should have been at least 8 weeks last week and 9 weeks this and for that to be the case I would have had to have concieved at least 3 weeks before I had my positive pregnancy test!
Anyway I understand it's their procedure but I still have pregnancy symptoms and though have had a small amount of old blood passing was wondering if rather than have the d&c seeing as I've had to wait a week already I might let nature take it's course so to speak but have no idea what to expect or how long it may take!
I understand it's a sensitive subject so any advice is very gratefully recieved x

            Sorry to hear this
I would assume that after your scan tomorrow if it is definately what they think it is then they will arrange a D&C for asap.0

Hey Sweetie, sorry you going though this again, having been there myself 3 times, i chose to let things take its natural course for my 3rd loss.
For me (i was 7 1/2 weeks pg) it was just like a heavy period, infact i bled heavier after my first d&c. it lasted just over a week. I deliberatly didnt inspect things, how ever i have read people saying ive just passed the baby etc, but i imagine they mean a clot.
it wasnt at all distressing to me, but i was mentally prepared, that what wasnt meant to be, wasnt meant to be.
if the scan has picked up you were only 5 weeks,it is highly likely they will let you pass it naturally.
I hope it isnt to distressing for you.

I am hoping I can have a d&c tbh - from previous memory the symptoms of pregnancy stopped with my earlier miscarriage after the d&c - I couldn't bear to have morning sickness and sore boobs for too much longer knowing what's happened.
Still testing strong positive on pregnancy tests too so clearly my body isn't dealing with it in the most efficient way!
Thanks so much again for sharing your experience funky footprints x0

so sorry that you are having to go through this - i went through it at the end of feb and chose to go for a medical management after 3 weeks of bleeding but nothing happenng on its own - I was carrying 4 so it was quite heavy bleeding i experienced once the tablets had kicked everything off, but it lasted only a couple of hours and almost stopped when everything had been passed. If you are leaving things down to nature then it could take weeks for things to start off. i can really reccommend medical management as it gives an end to the ordeal and seems to me to be more akin to what would happen naturally.
as for your pregnancy tests still showing positive, this will continue until a few weeks after the pregnancy has ended as it takes a while for the hcg hormone to get out of your system.

Thanks lunastar - this is exactly what I was thinking - last thing I need is for nature taking it's course to continue for a long time - that seems really cruel to me - thanks for your advice x0

If you still have pregnancy symptoms you may still be pregnant.. not trying to get your hopes up or anything, but this happened to my OH. Miscarriage was diagnosed by two separate doctors. Went for the confirmatory scan and expected to be admitted for d&c and there was a living baby. We don't know what happened, and never will, but possible the miscarriage was a twin.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

Thanks for your experience Surreysaver glad it all worked out ok for your OH but sadly I know this isn't the case for me as there was definitely only one sac on the scan but thanks anyway x0

I can really give any advice on letting it happen naturally, I know someone who has had one and they said it was very unpleasant and painful.
Just to let you know my thoughts are with you, I lost a baby in this way last october. A d&c helped me cope with it alot easier I think than if I had let it happen naturally.Debt free wannabe

So Sorry. I had the same. Just to prepare you. Others i know who had miscarrages have had no pain but the night after i had had an internal scan and told that i was going to miscarry (foetus was 6 weeks and i was 10 weeks) i started having a bit of blood and then pain which led to incredible pain(i have had children since and it was as painful as childbirth even though i only had to dilate a little, if at all , my body dilated as it would for a normal size baby which was incredibly painful. I was young and didn't like to make a fuss so when the dr at 10pm he tiredly said it was normal and it would be ok i just accepted it and just had paracetemol which did nothing.I bled masses too. Dr did pop by in the morning when the pain was over to check i was ok(bless him!)
If it happened now i would be straight down the hospital which is what you should do if you are getting a lot of pain. The positive was that i did not need a d&c. You will pass the foetus possibly during the next day which i found quite traumatic.
I did fall pregnant 2 months after and all was normal so just be aware of this and i wouldn't swap my DS for all the world. On the up, they will also keep a really good eye on your pregnancy next time.
 Take care & thinking of you.Lots hugs.0

This to happened to me in March - I had bled from 6 weeks until 9 weeks. A scan at 9 weeks confirmed missed miscarriage at 5 weeks. I chose to let nature take its course. I waited a weeks and nothing happened so chose to have d & c as wanted it to be over. The day before my D & C I had my miscarriage and it was awful. I bled so much I couldnt get off the loo for 3 hours. I would never go through that again. I would opt for the D & C. Will be thinking of you x x x0
