They are a bit thick where I live, we had some plants outside with a sign saying

    FOR SALE
    50p

A bloke knocked on the door gave me 50p and walked away with the sign
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

I'd have given you 50p and asked when you were going to move out :D

I heard somewhere that it is illegal to have this displayed - is this true??

This only applies in London, and even there it is not certain to be an offence, but it will be, until someone proves otherwise.

Someone mentioned outside London local bylaws - that may also be true, you would have ask your local council - and investigate for yourself whether those bylaws are enforceable and what exactly they mean.

This selling by the side of the road thing seems to happen quite alot in South Wales. I have seen a by-law sign prohibiting sale of vehicles at the side of the road.

'tis a sad sad world ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • I saw this locally too, good idea but dont know if its allowed or not.Saw a car parked on grass verge at busy roundabout and left there with sale signs allover it.I think that may have been dangerous, distracting driivers? Also saw someone park in tesco car park near entrance and leave car there after putting sale signs in every window including enormous one inside main windscreen.Dont think Mr T would have allowed it.
You need to check local laws.

Offence of parking on the grass verge, but I think there would have to be parking restrictions in force to make the ticket possible.

If Mr T does not exclude it in his contract with you, then it would be allowed, in any event it would be a civil matter between you and T..

As any first year law student knows, a price label or advert is an 'invitation to treat' and doesn't constitute an 'offer', shouldn't be hard to get off the hook if you took the issue all the way to court.

It's only "illegal" because some jumped-up jobsworth at the People's Republic of Barnet has abused their position and creatively interpreted the law.

Actually these rules are being implemented by quite a few councils across the UK at the request of local residents to stop car dealers who trade from home having their stock of cars parked up in the residential streets and causing a general nuisance. Some of the dealers were trying to pretend to be private sellers by having home made for sale signs on them, with a different mobile number on each one.

So you cant drive it because it costs too much to fill.
You cant tax it because it costs too much to tax.

Now you cant sell the bloody thing either.

The traffic authority orders usually refer to the sale or offer for sale of goods from a vehicle and can apply to the highway as well as carparks.

Though your argument would have presumably helped this woman assuming the signs did not also stipulate no offering for sale.
