I have a new tiscali broadband connection and amongst other problems the connection always drops either when the phone rings or an outbound phone call is made.
Anybody know why this is and how I can prevent it?
Thanks

It is probably a dodgy filter. The first four BT sent us all completely didn't work.0

Got one in ALL sockets?0

I was told it was all, device or not.
But then I am not an expert.0 -
I had similar problems when I had an analogue phone installed in the bedroom. When I removed it and just used my digital (cordless) phones, the problem stoppedI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Neighbours who had ADSL suffered the same problem a couple of months ago, after various tests - and discovery the problem started at the same time - it was clear the problem was actually with BT's exchange. After they both complained - BT admitted it was a fault at the exchange. When fixed both started working !
So - my suggestion is, if you've followed others suggestions - checked your cabling and rulled out any issues with phones and/or ADSL filters - contact BT and ask them to see if there are any similar reported faults at your exchange (but make sure you don't become liable for a chargable engineer callout).
(I'm on Telewest - so was'nt affected)

Are you using an extension cable at all to get your phone line to the pc?0

Make sure your wiring includes Splitters. There are two main ways of DSL'ing a line. Put one splitter at the master socket and take all the extension wiring from the filtered side of the splitter. Connect your PC to the DSL port. Or use your existing cabling and install a splitter at every point where a phone is connected and connect your PC to the data point on one of the splitters.
