Whats the score with Paypal for collection only goods now??

Mmmmm, I think I am just going to chance it really and if it gets pulled think of something else r stick it in the local papers. I've really seen an increase in stuff listed in the local rag recently - I guess this is why, people have stopped bothering with Paypal.
I have sent an email to eBay asking what they can do to protect me, as a buyer, against fraud as I have a bed to sell and it cannot be collected and if I accept Paypal I cannot give the buyer acceptable proof of delivery.
I have asked this before and I have been told that if someone collects something then it is recommended that Cash is accepted and not Paypal yet they seem to have changed their terms since as I did not have to accept Paypal. I have emailed them and will await their response and then I am going to forward it onto Trading Standards and see what they say. I guess they can afford to be choosy on who they have selling on their site!!
I wish I had the savvy to offer an alternative option to sellers and not be greedy about it!!0 -

I'm pretty sure it's not a question of choice to use. It's more to do with code of practice. If high street mall said to the all the shop keepers renting space inside "from today, regardless of rent you pay us, you must not accept money by any other means except our cashier counters at the end of the hall and we will take 5% of the earnings for our benefit and "protection" we might, or might not offer to your shop" it wouldn't be a question of "if you don't like it, go open stall somewhere else" - they would be closed down faster than you can spell "mob" with a loud gunfire of press ripping them a new one the very next morning. It's simply not on.
And yet we all sit here looking at eBay doing just that - "we already charge you to put your stall on our premises, but now all the money customers pay you must go through the palms of the that big, bald yobbish looking guy by the entrance and he will take a hefty cut. If we see you taking money under the table or trying to make a deal outside, we will take your table down and kick your junk out".
To the arms gentlemen.0 -
If someone collects, could you send an invoice via special delivery to the buyer?
Then you'd have a tracking number to give PayPal in the event of a dispute.0 -
Hi ive found that most people pay with paypal now when collecting goods regardless of what you put on the listing. Except for a couple of people who tried to haggle with the price!0
-
But then they would have to return it tracked!0

v0n I totally agree with you, but if there was a problem with what they are doing then surely there would be some ombudsman that would get involved. They have been doing it for a while now but I do think people are starting to speak with their feet. I have removed my business from eBay for that reason to be honest. I totally get where you are coming from but what do you do? That is a genuine question. The 'strike' days don't work, people will not stop selling for fear of not having a livelihood. the only reason i want to sell is because it is a huge item.0

That wouldn't work either. They could just open an item not as described.
True, but they can do that whether they collect or not. It makes no difference. And they'd have to return the item to get their money back.
The issue here is that if someone collects, you have no comeback against item not received disputes. An invoice sent with a tracking number means you have something to give to PayPal.0 -

I see what you are saying but if someone is out to get their money back then they will just refuse to sign it when it arrives anyhow.
The other thing is that I beleive that they will compare the price - so a letter sent when the buyer has said they have bought a bed will mean that the price of shipping will not be feasable and Paypal will disregard it.
The other thing is that it also means you have to pay another £5 out of your own pocket on the off chance it might get signed for.
As I say, it is good that eBay can be that choosy over who they want as customers!0 -
"PayPal is of course accepted, the item would be sent by couier, if you would like to pick up, then cash on delivery please".
Should be ok? And charge like £200 for P+P of course0
