ive never managed an appointment on the same day, but it might be worth turning up and asking for one anyways as i know a lot of people drop out, so they might need extra unbooked people. i phoned on wednesday and got an appointed for this coming tuesday.

if you ask for a £5 cut from a proper salon i think they'll laugh at you! its like asking for a discount on a skirt from harrods, cause you saw the same one in an out of town discounters shop for cheap!

I got my hair done at New Oxford Street last week (phoned late Monday and asked for a Weds PM appointment, which I got). Am very happy with results, and will definitely go again!

  • I was walking past my local Tony & Guy today (Stratford-upon-Avon) and there were 2 signs in the window - one said models required for cut and blow dry £15 the other said FREE haircut on Monday 16th October enquire within. Having seen the model sign before and planned to go in but never got around to it, seeing this FREE haircut made me go in and enquire what was the difference.

The models required £15 haircut is where you choose whatever style you want and get your hair cut for £15 - think its a training/evaluation thing.

The free hair cut was for a bob (exactly what I would have asked for anyway) and they explained to me it was because they are interviewing trained stylists for jobs and they test them too. The call it a Trade Test. Not sure if its always a bob they test with or whether I was just lucky.

Anyway point of this message is. (for those that don't have access to £5 academy hair cuts)

    1. If you see posters in your local T&G enquire, if not always worth asking if they want models.

    2. Keep an eye out for FREE cut notices and maybe enquire if they keep lists of contacts etc. Or if you see any job adverts enquire if they will be doing a trade test and could you volunteer.

    3. Student Discount is advertised in their price list/appointment card as being 10% Monday to friday with selected stylists. There is also a note that says children 50% discount Monday to Friday with selected stylists.
  • Just wanted to add .... I had my FREE trade test haircut yesterday and it is the best haircut I have ever had ... I can tell because even my husband said so and complimented me. Lets just say I will return (hopefully at a discount/cheap price).

If anyone lives in the Havering area I am at college (Havering college) doing hairdressing and we need models!!!! You do have to pay, but as with other places it is cheap. We are not allowed to do anything we haven't been trained/practised to do - and everyone has to learn somewhere.

People who have had their hair done seem quite happy.
