    vidal sassoon are scary.

a timid male friend of mine went and they shaved his head on a no1 setting, all over, apart from a 2cm border which they left long all around his head..... in front of a class as he wasnt told that the lecturar was cutting his hair in a room of students watching!

it is quite regular for stamford street to refer to oxford street. ive been to both and they're pretty much the same. i almost always get offered colour and have never paid more than the standard £5 for it.

Do you know how much it will be normally if the free haircut offer is not on?
I've heard too many bad things about tony and guy to go there!

Normal Tony and Guy do training cuts too but they are £10. Takes ages but I got a really nice cut as the student was over cautious so the trainer finished it! Probably worth it if you are somewhere where it is hard to find a cheap haircut (Oxford in my case)

I have been to both the Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy advanced academy and was impressed by both. I paid £4.50 for Vidal Sasson and £5 for Toni & Guy, both of which included 3 colours.
Personally, I preferred Toni & Guy because I like their signature style.

Sounds great. Is there one in Sheffield by any chance?

I go to T&G in Sheffield and they do have nights for training where you can get a cheap haircut. I am told by my stylist that you probably get a better haircut as each and every section is done with lots of care and is continually checked by the experienced stylist.

I don't go to the training nights as I fancy my stylist; I like to have his attention all to myself. He is so damn cute:)

Right, just thought I'd update (and warn!) you. I went to Mahogany training school in Oxford yesterday to get my hair cut and was NOT impressed. The girl had only been training for 8 months. She could only do straight cuts (i.e. no layers) and I mean NO layers at all, not even a bit of something different at the front. I had really long hair and she cut it into a shoulder length bob. I specifically said I didn't want a bob. All of this was unknown to me when I got into the chair. The cut is good (ie straight!) but looks rubbish on me. It was basically a matter of getting one of her boxes ticked on her training chart. Plus they charged me £9. Last time I went to Mahogany the guy was really experienced, at the end of his course and knew exactly what he was doing and let me choose my haircut. This latest experience was frankly traumatic! I felt bullied into having it done. And to say that it was a basic straight cut, it took over 3 hours. All in all, not an experience I'd like to repeat. If you're going to get it cut by a novice, ask how long they've been training first and don't be convinced into getting any more cut off than you really want, because I guarantee you'll regret it. Also, ascertain exactly what you want to be done to your hair BEFORE they make the first cut, and if they can't/won't do that, then WALK AWAY!!!
  • Anyone know any hair dressers offering free hair cuts/colour in the bolton or preston area??? I once went to heaven on earth in leyland and they wer briliant.

I had my hair cut on friday at Toni and Guy (Manchester)-cost £10.

Took 3 hours! (apparantly many techniques were used and thus the length of time taken). The hairdresser was very cautious and had her teacher checking her progress everytime she did a section, which was actually quite reassuring as it meant she did a great job-was really happy with my cut-got great comments from people and as one poster said-they have signature styles/techniques which are different from your average hairsalon.

The girl who cut my hair was a trained hairdresser and all the students at this training salon were on a 6 week course to advance their techniques (also she told me,you have to be trained the toni and guy way in order to work at the salon).

It is boring as it takes so long but there is plenty of male eye candy about!

I would take a paper or a book-when I was having my hair cut, there was a woman (presumably a teacher), who was doing some marking!
