I put on a hell of a lot of weight when I got ill and it just won't budge
. I find clothes shopping extremely depressing now and I have all my old clothes in storage because I refuse to accept I won't get in to them again. If you care about clothes/looks then buying something with an 18 ticket is really depressing. But I have to say even if the sizing is scaled up it doesn't make one feel better....its what the mirror says when I'm undressed that counts. 0 -
Wow alot of different areas touched in this thead lol.
Returning to the original post whilst I think the couple have to take responsibility for the situation they are in, the reality is alot of people who are not as financially savvy as those nice peeps on MSE were led to the slaughter by the banks and the media frenzy over the housing market.
Banks lent too much to too many and all the while the media were repeatedly saying get on the ladder now or miss out.
We bought in 99 so our house has gone up alot (if we wanted to sell), but thank god we decided not to move to somewhere bigger last year when DD2 was on the way. We had a deposit even tho this was our first house and now only have a 40k mortgage.
people need to get back to thinking as your house being somewhere to live NOT an investment.

It's not the size, though, it's the other stuff, I imagine?
I used to be larger than I am now - pregnancy and breastfeeding made me a lot slimmer. But I chucked all my old clothes....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

You sound like my doctor....its not the weight its the pain/health issues that restrict you ...my biggest complaint and lifestyle inhibitor is my weight, I feel I could deal with the other stuff if only I looked better! But ironically th is the same attitude that made so many MEW I guess....its not the truth but the appearance that counts:cool:0 -
I think too many women see weight as a magic fix-all - get rid of a stone, and everything will be better. I'm not convinced....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

If some one can fix it for me, I'll tell youneverdespairgirl wrote: »I think too many women see weight as a magic fix-all - get rid of a stone, and everything will be better. I'm not convinced.
(I need a few stone gone though not one

Before I got pregnant, so coming up to 4 years ago, I was 3 stone heavier than I am now. It didn't ruin my life, or anything.
I'm happier being just under 10 stone rather than just under 13. But it's not the be-all-and-end-all, and I think the fitness part is more important to me....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

There is a lot of expectation and belief that people have the 'right' to buy a house, to eat expensive food and to buy expensive items.
I know what you mean, I was watching a piece on the news about how inflation was hitting one middle class family. They were talking about how they could now afford so much less after they paid for essentials. They were showing the mother bringing in some groceries and I could see a whole lot of Kellogs cereals and other branded foods in her bags. All I could think was how much money she would save if she went to Aldi/Lidl.0 -
Off tack a bit, but sort of related...
did you see the "who do you think you are", with Patsy Kensit, came from a family of London gangsters,
but back in the dim and distant past her g-g-g-g-g-g-grandfather was a benevolent curate/vicar ministering to the poor and so highly thought of he was buried IN the church,
but the next generation was running a business that went under and ended up in poverty, begging to the industry, working in his seventies to avoid the poor house - because he HAD to...no OAPs in those days, no Sky/rent/fags/children paying benefits system to fall back on...
chastening.
