My dad works a lot of overtime and my mum has a second job cleaning - both purely for debt tackling. It's helping a lot, we've got about £500 to clear by December now to be CC free.

  • A friend of mine recently joined a babysitting agency, you can work when you like, if you have plans you just tell them you are unavailable. I've joined as well and have work pretty much every weekend if I want it, occasionally I get work through the week as well.
Only 2 Months to go until I'm Debt free! :)

Its an agency called sitters, they are London based, but they recruit all over the UK. Their website is https://www.sitters.co.uk

The pay is minimum wage £5.55 per hour but I have found that people will round up to the nearest £5. The parents pay a fee to sitters to use the service and then pay the babysitter in cash. I have been quite lucky in that I get a booking most weekends. Its not bad money really for sitting watching TV when the kids are in bed!

I have various second income streams -

mystery shopping and surveys - occasionally, and if they pay enough
    google adsense - 15/MONTH
    amazon affiliate - 30-100/month
various other affiliate schemes - 50-100/month

I car boot and sell on ebay occasionally, when i have some bits and pieces. Previously, when at uni, I worked nights and weekends in a bar, restaurant and takeaway as well as a sandwich shop at some times. Very busy but you need to pay for all the beer - or is that books1

If I just had my main income, I would barely survive, not be able to pay my normal living expenses so need other jobs.

I have part time bar job, deliver local free sheet, and do all the surveys mystery shops etc. that I can.

Surveys - not much money but at the moment on Ipsos I have enough points for £15 Argos vouchers, so will keep saving these for Christmas.
    Also sell stuff on Amazon.

Agree with others, if I just had the one job, would take over 10 years to pay off debts, I throw as much of extra money as i can at debts. Don't use all of it, otherwise what is the point. Allow myself an amount each month for 'treats'

I really want to cut down on the number of hours I spend working cos I think it's contributing to my stress levels and lack of sleep,

However, I find it really hard to relax, and feel guilty when I'm not working! :o

Rather than a full time job I have two p/t jobs which total around 60 hours a week plus I have an eBay shop, I babysit, carboot, & mystery shop.

I'm thinking about adding dog-walking cos that would be good fresh air and exercise. My daughter and I could do it together and chinwag as we trundle - but I struggle to get everything done every day as it is ,so I'm trying to talk myself out of it. :D  :o

My son and hubby both take all the overtime they can get, plus my son plays gigs for extra dosh and helps my hubby with his gardening and small removals jobs at the weekends. They also do mystery shopping as well when the job calls for it.

Most of the extra money we earn goes on debt repayments - but also if we want to do something "unnecessary" that costs dosh we do extra work to pay for it.

It would be lovely to have a family holiday next year so I'm working as hard as I can to make that happen. (I'm scared to book it yet in case things go wrong.)

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • Hi, I also am seriously considering a 2nd job. But i just can't find one that fits in around my current full time job and things are getting desperate. I think its a great idea to get another one. I was planning on using my 2nd job money to pay off my credit card. But alas, its not happening! :(
    Debt to clear: feels endless...

    Weight loss to go: 42lb/13.5lb

Maybe someday i'll be skinny, organised and debt free..

  • DS aged 4's clothing and shoe bundle when he grows out of them ( which we bought on ebay to start with), toys when he grows out of them, my & DH's clothes when we get board of them ( these are normally NEXT clearance to start off with ), cosmetics/perfumes that I no longer use and occasionally I buy bits and pieces at my local bootsale if I think I can sell them for a profit ( clarins/clinique/perfumes etc), free gifts I get my £1 mag subs... I could go on all day my house is a bit cluttered but I reckon if I can manage to keep ebaying at this level 20/30 items per month I should have the house cleared out by Xmas

I think if you have a local bootsale and do some research on Ebay before you go you can pick up bargains and resell
i.e. Clinique Toner cost 50p sold for £18
Calvin Klein perfume set bought for £1 sold for £17
if you can get a couple of things like this a month it all adds up
p.s. remember to haggle at the bootsale to maximise your profit

Are you registered as self employed with HMRC? As soon as you start to buy things with the intention to sell, you would be class as trading....

I don't have a second job, I work quite long hours as it is and in the type of job I am in, I don't think they would like a second job interferring.... I had thought about doing pizza delivery etc on a weekend, but decided that with the cost of fuel there would be no point as probably wouldn't make a lot.
