just thought id offer my thoughts....
when i studied for my degree (full time!) i worked as a Teaching assistant in the morning and at an after school club a few afternoons, luckily my uni hours fell afternoon/evening time, then straight home and worked 4 hour shift at the local pub:eek: then did an hour on essays when home! but i paid myself through uni...dont know how i did it and came out with a top class degree!! and went the gym at 6am for 3days a week before school!!!

nowadays....im a teacher, and OH has good job - so we were silly to get into debt but again OH workin over time - refuses for me to as would be paid peanuts when we sit and work stuff out BUT - i tutor 3 nights a week (2 in sept)and this pays for diesel or food each week......or a special night out with OH

as others have said - depends on your preferences...sometimes when i get in at 8pm when ive been up since 5.30 am i think is it worth it - but for me knowing i have cash there each week for the small things or diesel it gives a buzz and feeling of satisfaction ;)

im hoping be debt free sonner and have already shaved a few months off the date, and then enjoy as much time as we can afford together - and at the mo we'r putting my money in a pot and looking at a hol in october ....

do whats best for you xx

I agree with the other posters who've said it's up to you do decide what's best in the work extra/have more us time scenario.

I'm self employed but took on a "2nd" job last year, just a couple of hours cleaning in the evenings and it's been a HUGE help with getting rid of the debt faster. The work's not great but there's no-one there to annoy you, you just get on and do it (Though I've been swithering with getting some weekend bar work too)

I'm lucky in a way as my boyfriend is currently working wierd hours in his job and with my se work I can fit in spending time with him quite easily.

  • i have a second job working at a bar. its really hard and i am usually pretty knackered but its the only way to try and make ends meet right now. all i can say is only you can decide whats best for you, but i know if i could survive with out a second job i would drop it in a heartbeat! i would much rather spend the time with dh and dd anyday!

I am on maternity leave at the moment but as well as my 'job' in an office 40 hours a week I also have my own business desinging and selling bridal jewellery via a local dress shop and my web site. I fit the desiging and production around the kids and you will often find me sitting on the sofa stringing pearls while watching tv/speaking to hubby. Yes it means i have little free time but when you are getting 200-300 a month extra after allowing for tax then it is well worth it. If you have a snowball try adding maybe 75% of your expected extra income to it and see what it does to your DFD.

This is interesting - sounds a lot for clearing out your old tat - surely you must buy a lot of tat or stuff to have enough to sell and make 200 a month?

DS aged 4's clothing and shoe bundle when he grows out of them ( which we bought on ebay to start with), toys when he grows out of them, my & DH's clothes when we get board of them ( these are normally NEXT clearance to start off with ), cosmetics/perfumes that I no longer use and occasionally I buy bits and pieces at my local bootsale if I think I can sell them for a profit ( clarins/clinique/perfumes etc), free gifts I get my £1 mag subs... I could go on all day my house is a bit cluttered but I reckon if I can manage to keep ebaying at this level 20/30 items per month I should have the house cleared out by Xmas

I think if you have a local bootsale and do some research on Ebay before you go you can pick up bargains and resell
i.e. Clinique Toner cost 50p sold for £18
Calvin Klein perfume set bought for £1 sold for £17
if you can get a couple of things like this a month it all adds up
p.s. remember to haggle at the bootsale to maximise your profit

I did a full time job plus LOTS of AQA to help pay off my debts quicker. I was knackered.

I was then made redundant and I'm now working park time in a carp paid admin job, the rest of the week (inc Sat and Sunday) on AQA and I've just been offered my third job which is part time tutoring a couple of hours a week.

I also do occasional mystery shops. I only do supermarket/fast food/pubs because otherwise there's not much point once I've paid for petrol and parking and then spent 20 minutes in a mobile phone shop to earn £5.

And I'm still not even earning a half decent take home salary :(

On top of that I am also studying part time to be a fully qualified teacher of adults and should have a clear out of clothes to ebay but I just haven't the hours to give it my full motivation.

  • there's a great thread about using photobucket to keep ebay pic fees to a minimum if that helps anyone great for large clothing bundles a decent bundle of 30/40 items can make well over £100 after postage that should be a good motivation
