best thing to do is find a car both of you like and take it for a test drive ,have some fun looking around and trying them out you have lot to chose from ,thats what my dad do's when him and my mum go looking for dla cars every 3 years and the only thing he looks at is the upfront payment and mpg ,or yes the upfront payment some times the site and book you get say there is a payment and some local dealer may have a specail on that model so there is not a upfront payment eg last car my dad got had a £400 upfront payment put when he ent to have a look at the model it did not have to pay anything with that dealer so it always worth looking around and taking then for a drive because they want the contracted,it makes them moneythere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0

If you want a new car go armed with the list of all those that are available with no forward payment.
As has been said, and I think you already realise, the most important factors will likely be comfort and accessability. Getting in and out of a car is more difficult than actually driving for many disabled drivers;)
Although I get mobility allowance I would never dream of taking a car on motability, it is simply not making the best use of the funds you are entitled to which in my case is why I fund my own (not new) car. I can however see the attraction in the scheme to someone who by their own admission "knows nothing about cars".
As to choice of cars, you are right, we all all usually predjudiced againt some car we have had trouble with. My own view is that there are no absolute no no's on the market, but occaisionally a rogue of all makes gets through.
Just a tip from my own point of view, I chose an estate car, I didn't realise how handy the fixed roof bars would be in assisting getting out of the car:TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
