Choosing car on Motability-No idea!

Hi all:hello:

Need some advice on a car to get. My dad is getting Motability and I will be the designated driver. I have just started taking lessons, with the intention of passing in the nxt couple of months. Problem is, I know nothing about cars, and neither does my dad!

Have had alook on here and talked to friends, but they all swear by the car they currently drive, which is not really helping. As for the car, well, we don't need adaptions or anything. Just want a good, relaible and economically car. As its Motability we don't have to worry about tax, insurance etc.
Any ideas, below is the link that has a list of cars I could get.
Possible Cars

I like the Aygo, but it only has 4 seats and apparently small boot, so not sure
Any help witll be very welcome

I think that the best way you can go about this is to take them for a test drive as every car is different. You both need to go and find out if it is suitable for your dad. Also some of the cars you have to put down an advance payment, and some of them you might have to be a certain age or be a named driver on the insurance docs.

    Hope this helps.

Will motobility cover insurance for a (young?) driver who has just passed their test?

Do you really need a new car? You might be better just buying an older less expensive car and banking your dad's DLA.

I wouldn't say I'm that young-almost 28. Only learning now, because never had inclination or money, but dad needs to be run about more now. Talked to Motability people this morning, said all is well with insurance and everything. No probs at all. Just stuck on cars

Ok sorry as long as you are over 25 for the insurance side of things.

Not sure if the nature of your Dad's disability would have any bearing on your choice? And if his condition is likely to change/deteriorate in the next 3 years? Is there a likelihood that you will need to transport a wheelchair at some time?

I can personally recommend the Toyota Yaris as a good all-rounder. The seats are quite high, so you don't have to bend to get into the car. The boot is smallish, but the rear seats move forward and then tip up, giving much more room. The TR has an mp3-enabled CD player and air conditioning. Both my pensioner husband and my 19 year-old daughter love driving it!

I like the Aygo, but it only has 4 seats

How many do you need :rotfl:

I was a designated driver for my father for many years
( but he never asked my advice  )
then last year was again a designated for a good friend

( she never asked my advice  )

So why should you ask for my ad... :D

Really as 'only' the designated driver its more what suits your Dad!
Will ease of access help, three door cars can have larger doors, this might help? A higher seat might work !

As a 'learner' you will adapt faster than us/father who has preconcived ideas.
