Best shop to buy maternity wear from?

When I was pregnant last summer I went and bought load of the smock-type tops that were everywhere, from Primark mostly. I got a few things from the H&M maternity range, a pair of work trousers from New Look and maybe some bits in the next sale.

I also bought 2 belly bands (one white one black) from topshop, I think they were a fiver each, they are basically just a stretchy tube of t-shirt fabric and they are worn over your bump, allowing you to wear your normal t-shirts and also your trousers/jeans with the top button open if need be, just pull the band down far enough.

I used to like Vertbaudet maternity wear too, although you are choosing without being able to try them on which you said you weren't keen on. You can return them again though if they aren't right. Vertbaudet quite often have discount codes too!

Peacocks and New Look was where I got my maternity gear from, you won't find much cheaper. The bump band was indispensible as well.

I vote H&M for comfort and style Their maternity clothes are the same prices as their normal clothes so if you shop there anyway it's not too bad.

Mothercare regularly have sales of their maternity wear.

Other than that pop into a charity shop every time you pass, there is a lot of rubbish in there but occasionally something really nice and comfortable.

I did the same as Squashy... bought smock type tops and also T shirts in larger sizes from say matalan/ asda..

Also bought one of the belly belts (about £13) which could be used with both buttons or clips... and bought some tie string linen trousers in a larger size (cheaper than maternity ones). That did me really apart from some maternity bras.

I've been wondering what those belly/bump bands were!!! Do they squeeze you or are they quite comfy? I don't know how pregnant I am until my scan on Wed:o but my t-shirts have started riding up embarassingly even though I'm not quite big enough to start buying proper maternity gear yet.
The maternity trousers in New Look look really nice and seem reasonable.
My plan is to stick to the leggings and elastic waisted trousers and just buy the smock type tops too. Have just ordered my stretchy Carriwell bras today...hurray!!!:D

The ones i got were just cotton jersey, almost like a short boob tube. They were sized S/M/L too. I have also remembered, I had a few wide cotton scarves that I would use to tie round my waist to get a real snug support for my bump! I even did the Race for Life with one :T

also worth looking at Top-shop maternity -they do maternity versions of their current stock, i found it was good for t-shirts and jeans - but i 'd recommend you go on their website for more choice. H+M - is great for everyday things. one thing i would recomend is to buy the best maternity jeans you can afford because you will live in them! mine were juicy couture and i bought them from an american website called shopbop so they were cheaper, i sold them on ebay after so i didnt feel guilty. but i also got a great pair from dorethy perkins maternity. i also got a tracksuit from marks and spencer maternity that i practically lived in at the end - good luck!!

try Matalan and Peacocks.
Ebay was a life saver as well.

Had mine from Mothercare, they usually have a good sale on maternity wear and it washes well.

I don't see the point in spending loads on maternity wear - but it depends on how smart you need to be at work. For my first-born I bought a whole load of baggy joggers from ASDA, at about £4 a pair, and they got me through fine. Most of my existing tops still fitted OK. This time round (I'm currently 19 weeks) I'm thinking that I might have to find something smarter for work, but I'll still probably just look at the stuff in Tesco that's a few sizes larger than my current size. I can't afford to spend a lot for clothes that I'll never wear again.
