6 month old car with "rattle" - advice please

Could I ask for your advice please.

I bought a 6 month old 207cc in April this year from the Peugeot dealer and it came with the Lion Used Car Warranty plus, of course, the Peugeot manufacturer's warranty.

It quickly became apparent that there was a loud rattle coming from the back of the car. Looking on 207cc forums, it seems this is happening with other 207cc cars.

Since then, over a period of four months, the car has been back to the dealer 11 times to try to correct the rattle, staying with the garage for more than 20 days in total. I have driven 325 miles there and back over the four months and each time I have to take time off work (thank goodness for an understanding boss). Every time I pick the car up, the rattle has gone but within a day or so it is back - Peugeot assure me they thoroughly test the car.

Peugeot have provided me with a loan car each time and patiently explained that they have various solutions and have to try each one, so it's only a question of time before they solve the problem

I picked the car up yesterday and this morning, the rattle is back. I'm not fuming, I'm upset. I want to love this car, it should be fun, but I dread each time I drive it in case the rattle is back. And to spend £14k on a car which sounds like an old tractor is not fun.

Any advice would be gratefully received - they have offered me a tank of petrol in compensation (but then didn't provide it!) - but it's not compensation I'm after, I just want a quiet car.

Is it a case of loud music?

Number plates and the third brakes lights are a common cause.

Apart from that, you could try sound deadening (expensive)

Welcome to the world of peugeot, should have gone for a German car :p
  • at the front of the boot, where the boot catch is, on normal 206's there is a kinda hollow area, my friend had a 206 that rattled, i decided to fix it, it turned out that there was a locking wheelnut key rolling around in the hollow

Where do you live im sure someone could help
  • Nj106 - my 80 year old mum can't cope with Black Eyed Peas at high decibels when I take her shopping !

The 207cc forums have provided useful info about where the rattle is coming from (to do with where the retractable roof meets the back windscreen and the sound travels down the roof pillars to make it seem that the noise comes from the side of the boot).

I'd really like to know where I stand with Peugeot - although they've been very reasonable about the loan cars etc, they don't seem to make any progress. Have I got any rights - am I able to reject the car as it's not brand new, for example

It honestly depends on how loud the rattle is.. I imagine they can quite easily turn around and say "wear and tear"

With my last peugeot, every single rattle annoyed me, it drove me insane!

Get yourself a 106 rallye for a few days, then you'd appreciate your shiney new 207 :p

Which in a roundabout way gives you the answer,

IE, Fix it yourself, the dealer will never find it. Sad but typically true. If it doesn't come up on the Tech screen as a regular fault, well:confused::confused::confused:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
