I can honestly say that since I started reviewing more harshly (I still give a fair amount of Very Useful's but also just as many somewhat and not usefuls) I have not recieved a single revenge rating. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen but I don't think it happens so frequently that people should be worried about it.
The problem with really long reviews for me isn't that the information isn't interesting or relevant but that it reads more like a wikipedia entry. If I'm reading a review of a book I want to know the basic plot and background and maybe a bit about the characters but I don't need to know the history of the author. In a film review I don't want to read lots of trivia. It's all interesting information but in a review all I want to know is what's relevant to me when deciding if I want to buy that product which would be:
1. What the product is.
2. The good things about the product.
3. The bad things about the product.
4. Anything else that might influence my decision to purchase it (is it expensive? Is it ethical? etc.)0 -

The trouble is CF that people are scared of revenge rating. I've noticed sine I started rating a long more SU or U, I've had a lot more U's in return. It might just be coincidence, but it does put people off rating less that VU.
But revenge rating on dooyoo means nothing in reality. Unlike ciao you still get paid regardless and others can discern between someone who has revenge rated a perfectly good review. It will also make no difference to your reviews overall review rating even if it is NU. In the grand scheme of things revenge ratings are nothing especially as you still get the money for the read. If anyone wants to revenge rate my reviews they can feel free!
You also have to remember a U is a good rate and even my best reviews have received perfectly justified SU's. If you rate what I grudgingly call "properly" you do put yourself at risk of revenge rates but then that just makes you stand out from the crowd and there is nothing worse than being a sheep.0 -

I know people are "scared" of it, but the truth of the matter is, no-one should ever have 100% VU rates. The fact that someone SUs your review (whether because they actually thought it was SU or just for revenge) doesn't make your review any less good... the next person to come along might well think it's brilliant and nominate it. At least, that's how things should work.
The more non-VU rates that are given out, the less people have to fear of their prized review being down rated because more reviews will get a wider spread of rates.0 -

"Prozed" review? What's one of them when it's at home
It is definitely true that one (or more) lower rates does not prevent a review from being crowned or even winning the monthly competition. So THERE Dave :P
Seriously, as mentioned before on this thread, even a lower rate from a guide doesn't necessarily mean you won't get a crown, any more than a nomination from a member or guide means you are guaranteed one. Lower rates are part of peer review - it can be irritating, but it's not generally personal. Even I check if I get a lower rate, but I don't automatically assume 'revenge rate' - in fact, that's a lot rarer than you'd think, and the revenge rater tends to get found out quickly, because he or she is often abusing the site in other ways. And if it does get missed, well, that's still 1.5p in your pocket.
Cheers!
