Debate House Prices

House prices 'see first double-digit fall'

Is it a slow day today, or do some people just have far too much time on their hands generally?

7th August 2008... what happened in February 2009...
Well, base rates went from 5% to 1%.
The BOE started printing £75bn of new money.
A halt was put on reposessions.
Banks were taken over by the nation.
None of us knew QE would start. None of us knew rates would fall to 1% in Feb from 5% in Aug. None of us knew reposessions would be halted.
Hence why absolutely none of us predicted it. If house prices had just sorted themselves out, fair play, you could sit there smugly. But I think we all know, without all that above, prices would have continued to slide for many many months. Or is it just coincidence house prices stopped falling when all the above came into play?
Wasn't stamp duty also halted up to 175k in this period too?0 -
