Lol, at least I got off lightly.

Needless to say, in response to this member, who felt so strongly they exclusively signed up to this site just to post a rant. I should point if this company is legit - there is NO Company Number Registration.

I've just been contacted by them and thankfully had the sense to Google them for a few reviews. I think I'll be steering clear at the moment but on this point, they do, or at least the email recieved from them states, they do have a company registration number:

From the footer of the email

BT Customerstreet is a trading name of BT Directories Limited
Registered office: Lancaster Business Park, Caton Road, Lancaster LA1 3RQ
Registered in England Company no: 04251486

I can't believe I too fell for this sales pitch. I've been fielding these type of calls for decades til now.
Anyway, Customer street approached me under a different name - BT Directories - I only found this thread cos I'd asked what their previous name was as they'd boasted that BT had bought them out for x million quid so they must know what they're doing. Hmm!

I saw this thread within 5 minutes of agreeing to their contract and rang them to cancel (I'd been assured I had a 5 day cooling of period). So far the phone contact has made all the right noises that they are "raising a cancellation" and will ring me back this afternoon. I await their call.
Meanwhile my credit card had already authorised the transaction.

If things go badly and they don't cancel the contract, will I have a case for having been missold because of the promise of the cooling off period? Can my credit card company do anything for me?
    Any advice welcome.

Edit: Wow, I'm shocked. Received a call confirming the cancellation. I asked if they'd email me too and they have. Said it could take 7 days to go through so I may just send them a letter anyway to cover my back.

Bt Directories have credited my account as promised !

I did send a letter to cancel but I don't think this made any difference as the credit went through on the next day of trading.

Certainly wouldn't recommend this company but it does show that if you are quick enough they will refund, or possibly that there has been a change of policy.
  • They called me this week and I asked to be transfered to a supervisor as my number is TPS listed they were still calling me

    I also asked them if they wanted to buy some domains;

    www.ufindus.co
    and
    www.electriciansregister.co

as they own both .com endings.

They couldn't care and didn't seem aware of losing their own TLD :rotfl:
    baldly going on...

    customerstreet is built on lies
    Almost Debt free!
  • Hi folks, yes we too have been duped into a 12 month contract with this bunch of sharp operators. My colleague thought he was signing up for a month trial but when I got home from holiday and found the email with the documentation I discovered to my horror that he had signed up for a 12 month contract at a total cost of over £1,300!!!! Now he is a farmer and doesn't like spending money so there is no way he would have agreed to this had he understood the 'contract'. BT Customerstreet claim that the telesales person said all the right things but have refused to send us a recording of the sales call - because we are a limited company. They have also refused to play us the sales call in its entirety and will only play selected excerpts.
I am complaining to the Direct Marketing Commission as I believe they have failed to comply with the DMA code.
The BT Customerstreet mode of operating is designed to hoodwink unsuspecting businesses into parting with substantial amounts of cash and then have a contract which is very difficult to get out of.
I wish that someone would expose them in the press for the rogues that they undoubtably are.
  • This company BT customer street is not owned by Britsh Telecom (Bt) as if it did the the "part" of the company would be availiable to see in the BT Group website which tells everyone what they own. I know this because I work on behalf of BT.

This does mean that BT (the real one) does have a right to sue the other business as BT is a registard trade mark.

Why would BT even want to build websites and claim to get your business on the top page of google. When they own thephonebook or .co.uk can't remember. With the option of FREE ads on there website when you take a full colour add out in their book.

To forse customers to take a product or service from BT is a breach of BTs code of practice.

Please do not think this is BT... Please if you do get anything like this. Report it to BT !!
  • BT Customer Street has asked us to post this statement:

I work for BT customerstreet and I can assure you we are part of BT, if you go to the main BT website, on the home page click on the more BT sites section, which is across the top, you will see that BT Customerstreet are about half way down on their list.

As part of BT we are striving daily to improve our service delivery to our customers and ensure that ALL issues are dealt with in a swift and efficient manner. If a customer has been miss sold the product it will be investigated thoroughly by a compliance team and if there is foundation to any claim of a miss sell then the customer will be refunded in full and the account will be cancelled, we take the issue of miss selling very seriously and I can assure you that as long as the correct channels are followed, eg you have an issue and you give us opportunity to rectify or look into this, we will endeavour to work with you to find a suitable solution to the problem.

I would advise any client of BT Customerstreet to contact us before they embark on any drastic and expensive action and give us the opportunity to rectify and look into any claims of a miss sell they may have.

The support line is 0845 338 0500 and is open Monday to Friday 9.00am until 5.30pm.

  • Can you please let me know the e-mail address for contacting BT Customerstreet?
  • I took out a package with BT Customerstreet. Certainly there is a hard sell method used in the initial cold call, but the idea made sense to me as I have built my own website. What they didn't tell me was that the websites that they set up for you cannot be operated by you if you are Apple Mac based, which my business is. When I complained that the package was of little use to me, a woman called Katrina replied that I should have told them I was a Mac user, and why couldn't I go round to friends or relatives, as one of them must have a PC. I asked if the Chairman of BT would be happy with such a suggestion!

However, a more senior person subsequently phoned me, and promptly agreed that I would be refunded in full. He was very helpful and understanding.

So I feel they acted honourably in the end, although I think to design a product that doesn't work on the ever growing Apple sector is not exactly sensible, but that's their business, not mine.
