Thanks, I'll look at that. Have been happy with Direct line but they have gone up and it seems to be the two 8 year olds that are the problem. No claims, but I'm sure when I had them to start with the old part started at 10, not 8. As cats live longer than dogs often I think it's a bit cheeky.

Ooh, thanks for that - my premium has gone down considerably as they obviously are much better for older cats. And the yearly thing is clearer too, just been alerted to that.

  • I went through quidco and got £20 as well!!!
  • I've sat and read all the posts and am now completly baffled! lol

We've just been given a six month old cross-breed and I'd like some basic (ish) insurance for her (I will be putting a bit by each month as well to build up some funds so as she gets older we may not need a policy)

We know very little about her parentage so would need a policy suitable for 'rescues' with no family history available.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful
Happy riding on two or three

I don't think it matters that she's a rescue with no family history - the insurers don't tend to ask for that, unless they want to check known issues with specific breeds such as hip scoring.
If the dog is healthy now, you can go to any insurer, regardless of where it came from. All they'll do (which is standard for all policies) is rule out any claims that might predate when the insurance started, if you haven't declared it. If there are any preexisting conditions, and you tell them, they'll either exclude them from the cover, or load the premiums.
Cross breeds tend to have less problems than pedigrees, so you might find it cheaper anyway.
Decide what you want from an insurance policy, and what level of cover, and shop around - you shouldn't have any problems.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Our policy is up for renewal - we were with M&S.

Tilly came from a rescue, aged about six months. She's a long-legged Jack Russell, but could be a Parsons Jack Russell, or even a fox terrier cross. We don't have a pedigree, or any idea of her parentage. So, my question is, for insurance purposes, do we classify her as a pedigree, or as a crossbreed? Obviously being classed as a crossbreed means a cheaper policy, but we don't want to invalidate the policy before we start.

MoreThan comes up quite well for us - anyone been insured with them? I'm just going to study their policy in detail before I commit. :)

I'd say go with the crossbreed, but run it past the insurer first as a general query.

Georgina. IIRC MoreThan is not the same type of policy as M&S was. It is lifetime, but that £7k doesn't renew each year.

On the plus side it is £7k per condition, so as long as they can't claim two conditions are related you could claim more than £7k (ooh, a pun :) ).
