  • I have 3 Lab's, and they are the most docile dogs Ive ever seen.
We used to have a yorkshire terrier, which we had to put in the bedroom if children came to play with mine,as she was so small, kids thought she was a toy and could do anything with her, so I always put her in my bedroom for her own good.
When she died, it took me a whole year before I was ready to get another, so I decided on a bigger dog....... we called her called minty.... 2 years later I decided to give her a litter, she only had 2 that was alive..... tell me, how do you part with 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so now Ive got 3!!!!!!

But I do agree with "Mizmir".... get one from a reputable breeder, or a friend.
My babies have since had 1 litter each, and me being me, I cuddle these puppies, and I let them out as soon as they can walk. They have the run of the outside, they mix with the other dogs, plus I have children that adore dogs....... and tust me, it does make a hell of a lot of difference.
When I take them to the vets for the jabs, they can never get over how cheeky and loving they are. Apparently puppies usually lay in corners of cages not wanting to get out, but not mine, mine would run around the surgery if they thought theyd get some attention!!!!!!!
You get puppies and you get puppies........ you can have puppies that are human dependant, or you can get puppies that are independant.... if you want human dependant, get one thats been handled a lot... Trust me, its time consuming, but it sure is worth it....
I use mine as pillows when Im led on floor watching tv in the evenings, I can do anything with them....

But please.......... do not forget.......... DOG ARE FOR LIFE, and we are talking about (hopefully) up to 15 years. But I would never be without mine.
    :D :j :D good luck xxx

Sorry if someone has already said this, haven't had time to read the whole thread.
But we got a puppy a few months ago and thought we were being responsible by taking him to the vet for his jabs and a check up the day after we got him (and the day after his insurance began). The vet then found he had a heart murmur and advised we have an ultrasound to find out more. But our insurance says that he is NOT covered FOR ANY TREATMENT OR CONDITIONS arising WITHIN 10 DAYS of the start date of the policy.

The Insurance Companies are just trying to protect themselves against fraud, but please check this before you taking you new pup or dog to the vet to make sure they are covered if they find something and if not WAIT until they are.

Yes he is KC registered and it is this free insurance that doesn't cover anything within 10 days of start date.

I'm sure it says it somewhere in the documentation but I didn't see it until i was reading the claim form.
  • well, you have to send that away to register is with the kennel club, then they will cover you for the 6 weeks.....

I always advise people who leave here with puppies to send it away ASAP, then as soon as they are coverd to take the little puppies to the vets to get them checked out.
Another thing, didnt the breeders get the little ones checked out when they were 6 weeks old??? if so, why hadnt the heart murmur been picked up then? I think I would have contacted the owners vets to see what they had to say for themselves.

He had the 6 weeks free insurance and the start date of the insurance is the day we took him home. We went to the vet the next day. But the claim form says they don't cover any illness or conditions arising WITHIN 10 DAYS of the start date. In fact our breeder sent the form herself to make sure it was done (and it was).

Our breeder did have him heart checked and apparently he was all clear. She said she wouldn't have sold him if she knew he had a murmur. Sometimes heart murmurs don't develop till later.

  • well I sure hope the little one will get over it soon, as I know they can grow out of it by the time they are a year old.

So look luck to you love, and hope the little one will 100% soon xxxx

He is fine at the moment. He's going through his 'destroying the house' phase.
He may grow out of it like you say or he may live with it with no problems or it might get worse and affect his life. The ultrasound was to find out exactly what we are dealing with so we would know if it would get worse or not.

Treatment if it gets worse are pills to extend his life a bit which are relatively cheap so even though he's not covered for it we shouldn't have to deny him any treatment on the basis of cost.

a week ago today i got a puppy from the dogs trust and i cant recommend them enough
we had to fill the questionaire in then we went and saw the puppys - we didnt pick one that day (they didnt have a big selection but were getting more in) but we went a few days later and picked one - he was a cross terrier - crossed with what we dont know
anyway before we could take him home they had to do a home visit to make sure our house was ok and the garden was secure - apparently this was policy for all puppys (adult dogs just need a vets recommendation)
we also had to register him with a vet and atend a puppy class before we could get him - the puppy class only lasted abuot an hour and gave basic info on house training etc - but if you havent had a dog before it was a good idea - they also offered dog training classes as well

for the £75 we paid we got
    all first vaccinations
neutering when hes 6 months old
supposedly a weeks supply of food but ours lasted 3 days (we may have fed him a bit much)
6 weeks insurance with pet plan which we will continue
    microchipped
and a years subscribption to a homesafe thing where if someone finds the dog they can call a number then they will contact us

tbh its worth it more for the vaccinatinos and the neutering

already hes a gorgoues wee thing and knows where he can and cant do his business - he likes chewing stuff but we've made sure he has enough without wrecking the house
cant take him out yet as he hasnt had his 2nd set of vaccinations

I know I don't post regulally on here but last year I got a kitten and decided as soon as he turned 8 weeks old to insure him with M&S. Have to pay £6 a month which I was fine with which included no excess and after 3 months my cat decided to swallow on of my hair bobbles and had to have an operation to get it removed.

The operation cost £500 in total and M&S were fab. I had to ask my mum to pay the vets fees first and soon as the cheque cleared from M&S which arrived about 2 weeks afterwards I paid my mum back. They do an option to pay the money directly to the vets but the vets surgery were against this practice. It may have been because I was a new customer however.
