I used to insure both my cat and dog with Marks and Spencer. The monthly premiums became absurdly high, along with the excess.0 -
What is the overall opinion of Animal Friends pet Insurance?

Shopping around fro cover for my new Shetland Sheepdog puppy, I'm appalled by how much prices have risen. Most quotes came out at £24-32 per month, whereas my 3 year-old (same breed) has been £12-14 per month for similar lifetime cover (Axa). They have quoted £16.15 for him - are dogs a higher risk than females?
The best buy seems to be Aviva who have quoted £12.76 for Platinum cover."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Haven't insured a pet for a few years. I've taken two stray cats under my wing and want to get them insured.
What is the general concensus as to who is the best provider at the moment. Should I do a search, as we do with home/car, etc, with the usual search engine sites?0 -
Just got a rescue dog & am looking at insuring him. Never insured a pet before so haven't a clue what I'm doing in terms of getting a good deal.
Any advice/recommendations would be appreciated.0 -
Saw Martins program on TV last night and if it the public liability insurance your most concerned about join the Dogs Trust for £25and you get that as part of their benefits to members !!0

It seems that this thread almost needs to start over again, as I would think any insurers out there have more or less overhauled their policies.....0

£300
we are insured with e&l but have never had to use them in 5 years. the vet receptionist just told us they are useless as a pet insurance company.
has anyone had any dealings with them and will it be easy to claim our money back?0 -
I don't know how everyone else feels like them, but I have used Argos to insure my dog for the last 2 years and they have been nothing short of brilliant. Costs me £7ish a month (and I got about £40 back through TCB) with an excess of £65. I think I have the 'gold' level of cover. Had to use them last year when she was diagnosed with incontinence due to weakened sphincter muscles (don't ask) and is now on medication for life. She was only 12 months old at the time
Anyway, the customer service team were fabulous and the only thing that caused a delay was my vet.
The only thing I would say is to reinsure as a new customer every year because, as always, they get the best deals.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -

When you reinsure as a new customer, does the incontinence issue get excluded as a "pre-existing condition" as it would if you went with a new insurance company? Or do they continue covering it and paying for the medication because you've stayed with them albeit as a "new customer"?
I have had to claim on my dog's insurance (not Argos) this year as she had a lump investigated and removed (turned out to be benign). I realise that if I change to another company next year in search of a better premium then odds are that any future lumps wont be covered by a different company but will be if I stay with my present insurers as I have a lifetime cover policy.0
