Curious......which companies did they pick as best buys?
Picked up my pup on Friday, she's adorable but a real handful . The breeder signed me up to Petplan on a free months offer, I've since looked at the Petplan prices and they are quiet expensive so doubt I'll be continuing it and will go to Axa. I have thought about NFU but I can't find details of the plan on-line and cba calling up for a quote, got a pup keeping me too busy for that :rotfl:.0 -
Various ie: 15 lifetime cover policies + 9 per condition cover policies from different insurers.0

Have a look at Petguard.0

I've always used 'for life' type cover for my dog (only ever standard policies for my cats) but I'm wondering if this is really worthwhile. If you move insurance companies (which I seem to have to frequently do as the premiums rocket every year) the new insurers don't cover existing conditions anyway. Surely you're stuck with the same insurer for the lifetime of your pet for the 'for life' cover to actually be beneficial?
Just moved my cats to NFU from Tesco but worried about moving my dog to a different insurer as he's been diagnosed with a degenerative condition in his spine. If I move, this won't be covered by an new insurer yet at renewal, Tesco have increased my monthly payments by nearly 40% :eek:Fell off wagon but now had another LBM. Debt 04/01/11 £9461
CC1 - £6413, CC2 - £2800, Next - £248.980 -
bozzy, understand that - I thought Id got the best one when I chose M and S as I thought it would be the one I stuck with. Sadly they doubled their premium and added £70 excess (from zero). Ive got to keep one of my dogs with them as he has a long term condition0

I had the same problem with M&S too.
I wouldn't mind the high premiums if I had made a claim previously, but my boy is 3 and a half and has never has a days illness! The only time he has been to the vets for "treatment" is when he was neutered. (I felt so guilty)0 -
Well I was interested in the policy that Pinnacle have brought out for pets. Pinnacle have a very good name in other types of insurance.
NFU give the feeling they are there forever though and even if the pot is a bit lower, worth ringing them as they tailor the policy to your needs. And they never increase the excess.
Funnily enough, Ive just insured my car with more than (£60 cash back through quidco) and I had a call yesterday asking me if I wanted to insure any pets with them. I told the girl, No, because they didnt have a genuine for life policy. She sounded quite aggressive and said," yes we do, its £7k per condition and you can claim that over what ever time you want". And I said but what happens when the £7k is used up. Silence. "Oh, I hadnt thought about that", she said. Hmm. I said to her, one of my dogs has a life time condition which costs about £2k a year. After 3 and half years the pot would be gone and I may have another 10 years or more trying to find that money myself.
Its worrying because had I been naive Id have taken her word and the policy.0 -
Ive just tried to get a quote for pet insurance from NFU & they wont quote unless you have another type of insurance policy with them! Bizarre!0

That's odd??? Are you sure? I would ring again and hope someone else answers you always get the odd person in call centres who don't know what they are talking about.....
I got a quote and took a policy out with them and I have never had any type of insurance with them before?0
