Skin allergies are long term prob. which the new insurer would exclude.

But, whilst talking about that - Ive been using some herbal soap/shampoo on my border terrier who has very bad seasonal skin allergies and its been a god send for him. I dont use any steroids at all. Diggs came to us with bald patches all over because of the skin prob and now he has a VERY thick coat and no patches. He does still get very hot in this weather and there are some nibbles on his back legs, but its a million times better.

pm me if you want details, we arent allowed to link on here I dont think?

With Sainsbury's, you have been lucky that they haven't raised it more. They are a bit of a fleece job with their pet insurance. They get you in for a couple of years and then whammo (even if you haven't had any claims). Stay away from the retail stores - insurance isn't their job. They look upon pet insurance as money for old rope.

Im still quite interested in the policy Pinnacle has recently brought out. Noticed its in the vets now aswell alongside Petplan :) It seems quite dear but very comprehensive and Pinnacle do have a good name in insurance.

    Anyone taken it out?

Unfortunetly Bull mastiffs, being rather large breeds either attract a large premium, or a company wont cover them at all.

My friend has two BM and he got insurance through AXA last year but tells me that he has noticed they no longer cover that breed?

If I were you Id ring BM rescue or a BM forum and ask them.

I tried to look at Pinnacle earlier this year before going with AXA. When I tried to get a quote through their web site, it wouldn't let me finish the info they wanted. Then I tried to call them over several days in order to get assistance. However, couldn't get anyone on the phone and was on hold for ages until I finally gave up and went with AXA.
Hopefully, they have gotten better now.

Having read right through all the posts hoping to get my head round 'pet insurance' I think I'm better asking for advice now that i have totally confused myself.
A call from petplan resulted in me taking out insurance on my 2 dogs, I said i wanted a for life cover, opted for the £4,000 asked about excess etc etc and was quoted £90 as the excess.
The two policies (the coverplan being called Petshare) came a few days later, I was ill so didn't look immediatley at them and have now seen that along with the excess there is also an extra 25% to be paid as well, he never said anything about that at the time, I checked my scribblings to be sure.
So for the two dogs one will be 162.78 with £90 and 25% excess (he is around 5 with epilepsy so this is excluded) the other is 167.28 with £90 and 25% excess, both dogs are spayed/neutered/microchipped/fully vaccinated.

So having read this thread decided to check out AXA which appears quite often and did the quote just on the younger (not the epileptic) just to see if there was a difference. (I couldn't do a second quote it kept giving me the previous figures)

This quote was for 7,000 vets fees per period of insurance £119.42 excess £75, a difference of nearly £48! and it would appear a lot less excess.

So I'm tempted now to cancel the petplan policy, I need to be quick as the 14 days is nearly up, and go with Axa for both of them. I would have liked to have looked at NFU but there is very little detail on their site.

I think I need a nudge in the right direction  help :o please.......

the axa policy is better than the current petplan one that you have.
please note, if you change to axa, anything you have claimed for in the past will be excluded from the new axa policy.

i am with axa for my elderly cat, have been with them for a year, and i made a big claim of £800 just around month or so after starting the policy...i was dreading the annual renewal in case they were one of the companies that penalised you for claiming...but was pleasantly surprised to see that the monthly premium had only increased by around £3.50!

axa also do not charge a percentage excess once a peat reaches what the insurance company deem 'elderly' (10 in the case of cats).
