What a minefield! I've been trying to make my mind up about which insurance company to use but I just end up having anxiety attacks, lol.
I would like to insure my male cat, who is almost 18 months old. He was neutered 3 days ago and following the operation has now developed a sticky eye. ( I know that won't be covered ). Reading through this thread and an insurance review site, I have decided that my initial idea of going with M&S wasn't so great. Also it appears that most companies offer cover that I really don't need. Having been given a crossbreed kitten by a friend, I obviously don't need cover for a purchase price of up to £1000 if my cat dies for example. None of the recommended companies have no excess plans on offer, or have I overlooked something?
I'd be really grateful for some advice from you wise people, making my mind up is not one of my strong points! Thank you!0 -
Wow, I have just spent 2 hours looking at policies and cannot decide on which one to go for. After reading this forum I realised my cat was only covered for £4000 per condition per year with a £49 excess with Animal Friends Insurance. I pay £7.89 a month for this cover.
Would now be looking at a lifetime cover without an unrealistic excess. My cat is now 5 years old and in good health, however I know how expensive vet bills can be.
Has anyone on here made any claims with Axa, Pet Plan or any other lifetime cover insurers? Any recommendations?0 -

£4000 per condition per year is an excellent cover! (This means you can claim £4000 for every condition, every year, as long as the policy is active) For £7.89, this is excellent!
It would be not so good if it is £4000 per condition. (This would mean once you have claimed £4000 for a condition, that is it)
Please check your policy wording carefully, a per condition per year cover is a life cover, the best you can get!0 -
Hi all, i took out pet insurance some years ago now, and last year my dog was diagnosed with a heart condition and arthritis. i claimed each month for the medication needed(still ongoing today) and Halifax were initially very good/prompt with claims. My excess was £50 per condition, paid when i first made claim. My renewal notice arrived today for june 09, and predictably the annual premium has gone up(which i expected, coz they have to claw the money back somehow) by £84 a year. The thing that shocked me is that they have now altered the excess to £100 per condition and done this midway through my dogs illness. Im furious, they know i cant go to another insurer with a dog with a pre existing illness, so they have me to ransom. Im told by them that its changed because of new underwriters, and i argued that surely because its an exsisting and ongoing claim that it cant just change because they want it to, it seems unfair and unjust, they wont back down. in theory they could charge me £500 per condition excess and i cant stop it??? if i was a new customer i would have to accept the £100 excess or find somewhere else, but as an existing customer with a claim ongoing (initially at £50 per condition excess) it doesnt seem right:mad: any one any ideas?0

But bonners, you will only have to pay the excess once per year on the condition, wont you - as the condition is continuing.
Im afraid they can change the conditions, as those of us with M and S found out0 -
i realise i only pay once per year(excess) but it still winds me up how they can change the amount during an ongoing claim, cant be right. Halifax certainly giving me a little :mad:Xtra0

I have Morethan, just found the £75 excess. Now they are saying they may not pay out for my chaps op as they term it as an 'exisiting condition' mmmmm not happy as I have faithfully paid the premiums every month - so busy looking for another insurer for my mogs - at the mo paying £25 for both - wondering if I should just shove that into a savings account??0
