I wanted to keep my new dog on Pet Plan but their top cover is now only £4k & no advertising & reward etc, the good cover is not available until next year0

hi all,
we have a two year old dog and have been insured with argos since we've had him but its now up for renewal and the excess has gone from £50 to £60 and the monthly cost has almost doubled (apparently the cover is much better and thats why but... its gone from our original around £9 per month to around £18...)
we're looking to move to another insurer... any tips on who is good and reasonably priced?
thanks...0 -
Well, have you had to claim at all? Trouble is once you have made a claim the next insurer will exclude that condition or anything it may cause
Argos is not good actually, as far as I can remember its not genuine life time cover anyway. Any of those mentioned above are genuine life time cover, Petplan, AXA, NFU, Halifax, HSBC, and others just try a few quotes with them and dont forget some of them give cash back if you go through quidco.com.
I dont understand that Tiger Lily - they arent doing the superior cover? They certainly were earlier this week?? How odd, I wonder why they arent doing it now then?0 -
Newp, look online & it shows the cover, so I called & asked why not & he just says it'll be back next year
I'm so confused as to why?! I wanted this cause the dog comes with 6 weeks pp anyways & it was the best cover!0 -
that is very strange about Pet Plan - i hope they aren't going bust! one of my cats is with them!
you could try AXA - my vet was very surprised when he was how good the cover was, he hadn't really looked closely at their policies before as he favoured Pet Plan.0 -

yeah, we did claim when our pooch got bitten by another dog and had to have stitches.. we had a vets bill of £200 and argos paid £150 of it coz we had to pay the excess... Will this make a difference? They are charging us way more than the ammount they paid out even so its just silly to be insured if this is going to hapen every time we claim!?
totally confused about what to do..... why do i need the lifetime cover? will insurance that doesnt have that be considerably cheaper? I dont want to pay for insurance if it isnt going to cover what we need it to...

No, I dont think something like that would make any difference - its a one off unless it was because of your dog being aggressive, which it doesnt sound like it was
Life time cover means say your dog got a life long condition like arthritis or exzema - if you dont have life time cover once your pot of money was used up (usually £5 - 7k) the insurance company will wash their hands of that condition and you will be on your own paying out for meds or ops or whatever.
If you have lifetime cover every year the pot is topped up to the £5-7k and you start over again so your dogs life long condition would be covered for life.
Get whatever policy you think would serve you best. More Than do a not for life one which someone said was a good deal. Just avoid E and L like the plague.
Id rather pay a few quid more for the life time cover simply because I know someone who didnt realise her cover wasnt for life and is now in a real stew paying out £80 a month for meds for a dog who is only 3 years old and will need the meds for the rest of his life.0 -

Hi
I called them this week as the website only offers £4k cover they quoted the next level at £29.19 per month less 10% discount but if you do it through your vet ( assuming they "push" this scheme you can get the better cover you mention and as i stated earlier in my replies my vet offers first 12 mths cover for price of 10 at £29.19 per month.
Hope this helps0 -

Thanks! I'll call back tomorrow cause they guy said it's not available until next year & I really will feel better with petplans top cover! I'll post back what they say, hope I find someone who knows too!0 -
I'll be getting my cat soon from the RSPCA and as they'll come recently spayed, jabbed etc I wan't planning on taking them to the vets until the next annual jabs are due. Or if they get ill of course. I'm going to phone our local vets and register the cat but as will the fact they will have only seen the RSPCA vet cause me any problems with getting insurance sorted?
Thanks0
