Are BMW trying to rip me off?

ring them and see what they say, offer to pay the cost of the next service which should be less then 750.0

Let's not assume you used it less after you asked them to take it back, it looks like you might be 2 days over.Very few days!! Basically the extra 100 odd miles were put on the car in the days after arranging for it to be collected and them actually picking it up. When I arranged for it to go back it was under!!
It doesn't have 'free servicing' I paid for service vouchers when I bought the car so these are still valid!
I think the only way they can extract the money is by bullying. It is not a reasonable claim, unless the contract explicitly states something relevant. It is almost uneconomic for the to get solicitors involved and if you are willing to play a long game, you might get it down to the loss in value for being serviced 117 miles late. i would not bat an eyelid at a service record showing the 25000 service done at 25117.After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
I think it is unreasonable. There is no loss to them by going over to such a small degree. Cost seems totally disproprotionate to the 'breach' so would be a penalty and therefore unenforceable.
Have they actually given a breakdown of how the £750 is constituted?0 -
The MINI uses a condition based computer programme to decide on when it needs servicing. It calculates this from a number of factors including mileage, number of cold starts, etc etc.
Maybe the servicing indicator wasn't showing when you handed the car back. The man without a signature.0 -
As already stated the mini has it's own countdown counter and will tell you when a service is due. For some it may be sooner rather than later as it all depends on how the car has been driven and the conditions.
I don't know much about the rental scheme but I do know that you should be asking your dealership what the mileage is on the onboard computer for the next service before doing anything!
I think Mini are being very stroppy about the 117 miles. I have owned 2 minis and my service intervals have really varied on each one. I even questioned if it mattered and was told by 2 dealerships that they have a margin for servicing. Sadly I don't know what that is.
Dare I ask what dealership you are dealing with??My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.-Erma Bombeck-~ Member of the MSE Celebdaq Minileague ~0 -
I am actually dealing with MINI head office, through the finance department. I'm sure whe it was serviced before they told me you could go 500 miles over.
I'm off to do some research with local dealers before calling them to have a go!0 -

Definitely worth pushing back on. There was no loss suffered to them.
Both of my cars are often serviced slightly beyond the servicing intervals. One of them is a pretty special beast that needs servicing every 6,000 miles. Chatting to the dealer, he said it would make no odds at all if it went for 1500 miles beyond that.
Mini can still sell your car on with a FSH. It makes no odds to a purchaser for such a small error.0 -
why not ring a dealer under the guise of buying a car and what the mileage limits are, then quote that to the finance department?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

I am curious, how did you get on? What is the bill for £750 really for? The vouchers should have covered the service which was due, so you shouldn't owe them anything.0 -
Well....I phoned round some local MINI dealers today and they said that they allow a margin of 750 miles over the service date. When I quoted this to head officer they denied it though!!
They have told me that the £750 covers the loss of value as they will not service the care before selling it on, which means that it will be sold with no service history, will just seems ridiculous to me!
I have discovered though that they drove my car 275 miles after collecting it, which shows where these excess miles have occured from, and why the service indicator wasn't on when I handed it over!!0
