Why don't you just phone them up? I had an interview for my current job at 5pm on a tuesday evening, and the agency phoned me back at 10.30am the next day offering me the job!

A week is more than sufficient for them to make up their mind if they don't want you, and it's very rude for a company to not let you know, so maybe no news is good news, or at least a maybe?

If you don't want to phone them, then I suggest a polite email (perfectly acceptably in today's day and age!) would be a good idea:

    Dear Mr X,

Just a quick email to follow up from my interview last week on <date>, and to get some feedback from my interview performance, and to enquire whether my application for <insert job title> was successful or not.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

    Kind Regards,

    C_Ronaldo.

I think contacting the company and getting feedback from an interview is always a good thing to do, as they're more likely to remember you, and consider you for any other positions that come up.

i wasn't sure if a week was long enough or not, the guy had to decide whether to employ someone with no server 2003 experience which is me or employ someone with experience of server 2003,
i dont know how many other applicants there were and i didnt want to contact him if he hadnt decided yet and disrupt my chances of getting the job

well email been sent and as of yet no reply

  • Hi ronaldo,

    In the same position!!

Went for a job interview last Tuesday (12th) and was told that they liked me and that I was a strong contender, only think was my current wage was a bit high for their gradings. It is with a great company and I even offered to take a drop to get in the door, I think it would be worth it. But because of this he said he would have to speak to HR and see what he could do. I was the first interviewee and they were interviewing on the wednesday too. Just freaking out now as dying to call them to find out what is going on, Should I????

OMG, give them a phone!! I would be concerned (nearly 2 weeks down the line) that if they are this disorganised at letting you know either way about the job, what else are they going to be a nightmare about?

  • When we recruit, we normally let people know the same day.

We would normally phone and offer the job and then they have time to consider it and withdraw if they wish, or if they haven't been successful then we would still phone the same day and give them feedback on why they haven't been successful.

Is there a recruitment team you could contact?

Sorry, I've only just seen this reply to me.

Yes, I mean recruitment team within the company.

We have a recruitment team but it's not them that tend to take the interviews, it would normally be one of the managers.

The manager would then feedback to the recruitment team and it would be then down to them to phone and offer the job. There may be the odd time when the communication between managers and recruitment has become a bit mixed up and the candidate may not get a call as soon as we like to inform them.

If a new starter contacts recruitment to query their application or feedback from the interview then recruitment can either get the paperwork out and see what the result is or contact the manager to find out.

I'd want to know one way or the other after 2 weeks, even if you dont get the job, feedback as to why is always good.
