Sufficient amount of time after interview that I should contact them

    they were wednesday and thursday so yes they were both a week ago, ill send an email off now

    A week is far too soon, IMO. At this time of year there are lots of people on leave and organisations take a while to get their act together.

    Don't ask if they have 'managed to make a decision', it's a bit rude (implies you think they are not good at making decisions). I wouldn't mention other offers either - unless you really are holding another offer with a deadline for acceptance.

    Personally, I wouldn't follow it up at all but if you want to do so then a letter or email confirming you are still interested in the position is about as far as I would go.

    I see your point about asking if they have made a decision, im not waiting for other offers, i havent sent an email off yet,

    When I got my present job it took 3 months from interview to offer letter.

    if no indication given at i/view, i would certainly drop them an email by 1 week after, asking when a decision is likely to be made, how keen you are etc..
    Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
    Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

    Yeah dont say explicitly 'have I got the job'. Say something like I am looking for feedback on the interview, that I am definitely interested in the role etc.

    I would do the same, ask for interview feedback and they may use that as a prompt to say they haven't made a decision yet due to holidays etc or will tell you that you were/were not successful. They may have informed the successful candidate by mail and royal mail are not adverse to losing things so I think you have nothing to lose by raising the question.

    I would send a letter, not an email. It would remind them about you and let them know you were keen. I'd start off by saying I enjoyed meeting him at the interview on 30th July. Then I'd ask if they'd come to a decision about the successful candidate.

    Maybe finish off by saying please contact me if there's any other information I could add. Then close by saying I look forward to hearing from you. If you find out you weren't successful, that's probably the best time to ask for feedback.
