i pay using a tesco club card credit card and normally i just pay on that without swiping my card and the points get added to my receipt

however twice this week the bottom of my receipt says "sign up for clubcard, you could of earned x number of points in this transaction"

i queried this today and have been told to bring my proper clubcard back with the receipts for them to credit them to my account.

That is a staff error in processing your payment - they are hitting the wrong buttons. I always pay with clubcard credit card at the till and it does always get added on.

    i thought as much!

tbh im not surprised, the metro store i go in used to be an old somerfields and when that closed down tesco retained the staff and they know nothing about the clubcard or how it works

when i used my credit card in there for the first time i asked how/when i would receive the bonus points (1 point for spending £4) and i was told you dont get extra points for paying via credit card. bless them

what's the correct procedure? earlier in the week they asked for my clubcard and i refused to hand it over as they'd cocked up in the past, instead i put the card into the chip&pin machine expecting the points to go on but they didnt:mad:

Surprisingly some staff recruited directly by Tesco don't know enough about the cards either.

    That is bad.

It can be done 2 ways:

    1) Swiped by checkout operator
    2) Put into the pin machine

The first seems easier for them as it is the same method used to add points on for those witht he basic clubcard. The 2nd does work providing the operator remembers to press the keys on their till to say you have a clubcard (as you've found out, it doesn't work if they do it wrong). Whichever way it is done, you should only have the card swiped once or put in the pin machine once (not swiped and put in pin machine too) as the next question they get on screen is to ask if you are also paying with that card.

One thing I was told is that you should never have your old clubcard scanned and then pay by the credit card - reason being that their system would not allocate the extra Tesco Finance points even though it should (don't know if it is true, the staff member has served me numerous times and seems to be one of those who does know a lot).

Although you are going to a different store to have the points added. In your position I would write a polite letter/email asking the store manager concerned to train the staff member again as it appears they do not understand how to use the credit card method. Quote date, time, bill & staff member - will all be on your receipt.

    Hi lizzie,

Thanks for following this up - whilst I'm here I actually went to my weekend store close to home and have had all these missing points added so at least that's been sorted eventually!

I might just contact them in writing/email like you suggested as it is poor how none of them seem to know whats going on and how the scheme works - it's not as though it's a small/unknown scheme either!

With regards to scanning the original club card and then paying on the credit card I have read somewhere that the bonus points are not added, mainly because they can only pick up one clubcard per transaction. I think in future though I'll keep my original card on me (never thought I'd need it again so good job I've kept hold of it).

Thanks for your help on this

Ps, I'll deffo be sticking to the selfservice tills from now on unless they're broken!
  • Has anyone used their Tesco vouchers for P & O cruises? The virgin restriction of £700 + having to pay cash for taxes and surcharges make that less of a bargain, plus the cosmos £400 restriction makes that a non starter, I thought perhaps the cruises are the best deal.
  • We used tesco vouchers towards a P&O cruise on the Oriana last September. Absolutely fantastic.
  • Thanks sahararose. Were the extras such as drinks and tips very expensive?

I have been trying to find an answer. I know that you can only recycle 30 printer cartridges a year, but is this per cardholder, or household?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I think this is per card holder as when I lived at my parents both myself and my mum did 30 each;) HTH
