One downside to Smart ownership is using useless Mercedes dealers for servicing. The man without a signature.0

Vikingaero - couldn't agree more and our smart dealer experience has put me off MB for life. There are some excellent independent servicing outfits out there now. smartclub website has info.
Re space - the boot is larger than the current Mini. We used to go cmaping in ours and we have a four man tent. You just have to be imaginative when packing it.0 -
They must be pretty scary on the motorway. Doesn't the short wheelbase make the ride harsh and uncomfortable?I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

I have bought 2 and both had cracked turbo needing expensive repair - they only seem to be good for about 70k miles but shouldn't be a problem for an 07 plate - note you are about on the edge of a big facelift/new engine at that age so go for the new model if possible.
Allegedly engine remap helps with the slow gear change and improves motorway performance. Wider front wheels/tyres improves stability for motorway use for example with buffeting when passing large vehicles.I think....0 -
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Whichever model make sure it has aircon - in winter they are a nightmare for steaming up in damp weather, aircon solves this problem.
If it has a turbo remember to allow it to tickover for a minute or so after stopping from a long trip - it allows the turbo to slow down and stop spinning. Turn it off and the turbo keeps spinning, but it does so without oil being circulated - not good.
They are fine on motorways - a remap helps in this regard, but they can be interesting in high winds!0 -
I had one pass me on the M6 on Thursday, it must have been doing about 80.
