At the moment we're waiting for Ste's ASDA card to get back to him regarding balance transferring the TV finance onto it, then there's my egg card and the car still. Once the TV's sorted we'll get cracking paying that off ASAP.

Hi IA - lurker here. Can i pick your brains about being self employed. My hubbys thinking about setting up selling items that he's made himself (nappy cakes in case you're interested - google it if you're thinking !!!!!!?) We have no idea whether ths will make any money at all but was wondering about the rules for this kind of earning. Would he have to set up as self employed straight away or is there an earnings threshhold? How do you go about this? What is the deal with tax etc?? Gaaaaah! It's all so confusing - can you help?

You've got 3 months before you have to register as self employed. Once you register apply for a 'small earnings' NI exemption certificate so you don't have to pay NI contributions until you know who much you'll be earning. Or you can pay voluntary contributions at £2 off a week to keep up your NI record. You won't have to fill in a tax return until next year and the Inland revenue will send you out an self employed information back when you register. :)
